One of Fox’s most popular TV shows of all time is coming back under Disney. Hulu revealed a first look at Prison Break: Black Creek, a spin-off series set in the same universe as the original. The series is now in production and is “coming soon” to Hulu and Disney Plus.
While the teaser doesn’t give a lot to go on, Deadline provides the following description: “A soldier-turned-corrections officer takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to prove just how far she’ll go for someone she loves.” The show will take place at the fictional Black Creek Penitentiary.
Who is working on the series?
Elgin James (Mayans M.C., The Outlaws) is Black Creek's showrunner. The teaser video reveals that he will also direct, with Vanessa Joy Smith handling cinematography. Dawn Olmstead, who executive produced the original series, returns to that role, while Disney-owned 20th Television is handling production.
As for the cast, Black Creek stars Drake Rodger (The Winchesters) as Tommy, Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C.) as Michael “Ghost,” JR Bourne (Teen Wolf) as Junior, Georgie Flores (Famous in Love) as Andrea, and Myles Bullock (BMF) as Darius “Red.” Noah Emmerich (Murdaugh: Death in the Family, Dark Winds) will play Callum Faulls, a West Virginia power broker.
What was the original Prison Break about?
Prison Break aired from 2005 to 2009, then returned with a new season in 2017. The series initially follows two brothers: Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). After Lincoln is sentenced to the death penalty for a crime he didn’t commit, Michael devises a complicated plan to help his brother escape prison. The series proved very popular, running for 90 episodes, though many soured on the show as it deviated from its initial premise in later seasons. Hopefully, Black Creek will capitalize on the series' original appeal.
