Reacher star Alan Ritchson’s new action movie looks completely unhinged

Will Motor City feature cinema's first death by engagement ring?

Reacher and War Machine star Alan Ritchson has carved out a niche as Hollywood's most lovable big guy, a specialty he will continue in this year's period revenge flick, Motor City. According to the film's official description, Ritchson plays John Miller, a "working-class romantic" who's framed by a ruthless gangster after falling for the wrong woman. After spending years in prison, Miller returns with only one mission: revenge.

Action is the name of the game in Motor City, which is set in 1970s Detroit. So much so that, according to one of the film's stars, Motor City only has "five lines of dialogue."

In an exclusive clip from Motor City, we get a peek at how Miller will mete out his silent revenge: not just with Ritchson's meaty paws, but with a sawed-off shotgun. And when Miller runs out of traditional buckshot, he improvises. Motor City may give moviegoers their first exposure to death by engagement ring (and a fistful of pennies).

In lieu of dialogue, Motor City is "fueled by a thunderous rock score, precision-crafted action, and immersive sound design to create a visceral, propulsive spectacle built to electrify audiences," according to distributor Independent Film Company. In addition to Ritchson, Motor City stars Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber, Ben Foster, and Ben McKenzie. The film was written by action-focused scribe Chad St. John (London Has Fallen, The Punisher: Dirty Laundry) and directed by Potsy Ponciroli (Greedy People, Old Henry).

Motor City screened at last year's Venice Film Festival and opens widely in movie theaters on July 24.
