Red Dead Redemption 2 is an incredibly impactful game for many fans. It managed to make its open world interesting and full of life in ways that tons of studios (even AAA developers) couldn't replicate. It's not just about the budget when it comes to Rockstar, as they managed to craft unique events and inject a ton of personality to give the game world more depth.

Because of that, fans are really reticent to move on to a third game with a new gang. The main characters from the second entry are so memorable that it's going to be tough to accept anyone else. As is usually the case with open-world projects, fans are divided, especially in places like Reddit. Before Grand Theft Auto 6 hits, it's time to ponder what the third entry is going to be like.

Redditor Different-Complex933 has a pitch for a new game, and where it could go, which has riled fans up. Here is their pitch:

"I know a lot of people have their own ideas, and some of you might find a plot hole somewhere here or just downright dislike it completely, but last night I had a dream where I was playing Red Dead Redemption 3, and it was so vivid. I was playing as Lyle Morgan, and he was part of the Jack Hall Gang. In certain parts, I was also playing as a second character called Edmund, who almost had that Hosea character archetype and was the high honor counterpart of Lyle. I can't remember the whole thing, but the gold and treasure hunt was a huge part of it."

In listening to that concept and the move to another gang, fans are torn. On one hand, you have people who want to see something completely different: "Sorry, but no. It will be a new character, the map will focus on the area that's north of New Austin/west of West Elizabeth."

On the other hand, some people would play a game with that setup: "Solid idea. And frankly, it does not need to flow into another character in my eyes. It worked in RDR1, and it was a cool continuity leading back to John. But let’s conclude the redemption in my mind and call 'RDR3' Red Dead and leave the Van der Linde gang alone."

Some hardcore Red Dead enthusiasts have their own ideas: "I always thought Red Dead 3 would focus on possibly the formation of the Van Der Linde gang, seeing Arthur growing up, and ending right before the events of RDR2, similar to how RDR2 pretty much leads into RDR1. It would make kind of a backwards trilogy, but I think it would be cool."

No matter what timeline Red Dead Redemption 3 falls into, whenever it's inevitably announced years from now, it's certain to bring it in terms of its open world. Rockstar has learned a lot over the years, and some of those lessons can be applied to the threequel.
