RJ Mitte’s Sister Details Heartbreaking Moment She Found Out About Death of Her “Other Half”
Content warning: This story discusses suicide.
RJ Mitte’s sister Lacianne Carriere is still wrapping her head around his tragic death.
Nearly two weeks after the Breaking Bad star died by suicide Oct. 12 at age 34, his sister shared a devastating glimpse into the moment she found out her brother had passed, as well as the grief that followed.
“There are just no words. You were just here,” Lacianne wrote on Instagram Oct. 23 alongside never-before-seen photos and videos of RJ. “Your strawberry Fanta was still sitting on my coffee table when I got the call. Life hasn’t felt real since then.”
But even through the pain, Lacianne is committed to keeping The Oak Room actor’s legacy alive.
“Since the phone call I’ve been sitting around with your closest people almost every night sharing the craziest stories that could never be said anywhere else and god that was just you..,” she wrote. “You were the life of the party, coolest guy that we all tried to keep up with but never could.”
And that’s just one reason Lacianne and RJ were more than siblings. As she put it, “Rj you were my everything.”
“I just lost my other half. I lost my brother but I also lost my father…,” she continued. “Every single aspect of my personality is because of your influence. My music taste, my film taste the video games I love… because of you I am a collector, you taught me that even the smallest piece of paper can be a precious memory later on.”
She added, You made me, me.”
And while Lacianne noted that their time together was cut far too short, she knows exactly what her brother—who shared his engagement to Kennedy Suarez in the fall of 2025—would want her to do as she heals from the loss.

“You would put on some lofi music and tell me to get up and go sit in the shower, how it always makes you feel better,” she explained. “I know you’re telling me right now that I’ll be okay though I don’t know how I will.”
“But I promise I’m going to do my hardest,” she added, “and I promise your love will always live through me until the day I see you again.”
Though Lacianne doesn’t “know if my heart can ever be whole again after losing the biggest piece of it,” she noted that their love for each other isn’t going anywhere.
“I loved you completely,” she wrote. “And you loved me the same. That’s all. The rest is confetti.”
