Sandra Bullock didn’t turn a blind eye after facing uncomfortable situations early on in her career.

The Blind Side actress detailed how she made “intentional” decisions about her career after enduring unsavory experiences in the early oughts of her rise to fame.

“I was in New York, I was a waitress, I was auditioning for every pervert that existed, asking me to drop my pants,” Bullock told pal Jennifer Aniston during a conversation for Interview magazine published Sept 8. “I was like, ‘Nope, not the role for me.’”

“I was working my way up,” she continued. “Every working actor thinks you will never work again so you just take what you can get and make the most of it.”

But that wasn’t going to fly for Bullock, who decided to take a break from feel-good rom-coms after the 2002 release of Two Weeks Notice

As for the reason behind the shift?

“The only time I was intentional about my career was when I said, ‘I need to stop right now with the rom-coms,’” she explained, “because I was getting so much s--t for them. And I took a role in this film called Crash.”

“It was a genius film,” she added. “I wanted to start flexing other muscles.”

But Aniston emphasized that it’s a “very risky feeling” to depart from one’s “comfort zone” working in comedies to try to be taken “seriously in the dramatic world.”

“The industry tends to pooh-pooh comedies,” she added, “but they’re not as easy as they look.”

In response, Bullock admitted that she misses shooting comedies “now more than ever,” revealing that, “I want to do nothing but that now.”

“Some people want to bring sexy back,” she joked. “We’re going to bring the funny back.”
