Sevilla’s Robbie Ure shines on debut, wins late penalty in 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano

Robbie Ure needed roughly 45 minutes to announce himself to Spanish football. The Scottish striker came on at halftime for Sevilla in their La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano and won a stoppage-time penalty that sealed a 2-1 victory.

Sevilla’s signing of Ure from Swedish club IK Sirius was announced in August 2026.

From Sweden to Seville in one summer

Born on February 26, 2004, in Glasgow, Ure’s early career featured stops at Rangers and Anderlecht, neither of which quite stuck. At Rangers, he managed one goal in three appearances. At Anderlecht, he got a single outing before moving on.

After joining IK Sirius in March 2025, Ure racked up 20 goals and three assists in just 20 appearances across all competitions. In league play alone, the numbers were 15 goals in 15 matches.

The reported transfer fee was an initial £5.5 million, with the full package believed to land somewhere between £8 million and £8.5 million depending on add-ons. The contract runs through June 2031.

A debut to remember

Sevilla’s match against Rayo Vallecano was the opening fixture of the 2026-27 La Liga season. Ure came on at halftime, and it wasn’t until the 93rd minute that he made his decisive contribution, winning a penalty that converted a potential draw into three points.

Why this matters for Sevilla

Sevilla finished 13th in La Liga last season, just a single point above the relegation zone. For a club that won the Europa League as recently as 2023, that kind of brush with the drop is deeply uncomfortable.
