Sony's State of Play Officially Confirms Until Dawn 2 Arrives in January

Sacrifice, or save, the rooster in January

The wait for the sequel to 2015's cult horror game Until Dawn is finally almost over. Sony announced during today's State of Play showcase that Until Dawn 2 will be released on Jan. 28, 2027 and offered a grisly (but campy fun) new look at the choose-your-own-misadventure horror game.

The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer for the game that highlighted the series' signature choice-based scares. A highlight of the trailer shows Mina (Camilla Senna) making the choice between "Sacrifice rooster" and "Slash palm." This alone makes Until Dawn 2 a must-play in 2027; what other game gives you the option of "Sacrifice rooster"? We see another cast member choose to cross a rickety rope bridge and meet a grisly fate when it collapses.

Until Dawn 2 follows the cast of Dead True, a ghost hunting YouTube show, as their search for fame and virality. While the show's scares are staged, a new adventure brings them face to face with real horrors as they struggle to survive on a remote island. The star-studded cast includes Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things, Power Rangers), Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion), and more.

What else do we know about Until Dawn 2?

Until Dawn 2 is being developed by Firesprite Games, the team behind Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Persistence. Supermassive Games developed the original Until Dawn and has since continued the interactive slasher genre with the Dark Pictures Anthology series as well as Until Dawn's spiritual successor The Quarry. In a PlayStation Blog post released today, it was also revealed that Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio is partnering with Firesprite on Until Dawn 2 to deliver a "deeply layered story packed with rich characters, razor-sharp dialogue, fraught relationships, tough decisions, and yes… more than a few gruesome deaths."

Another interesting tidbit from the latest trailer revealed that the cast of Dead True will head to Blackwood Sanatorium to shoot an episode on the tragic events that occurred 12 years earlier. Those familiar with Until Dawn will recognize Blackwood as the setting for the original game. We even see one of that game's monsters, the wendigo, attack the Dead True team. Perhaps there will be even more connections between Until Dawn 2 and its predecessor in the full game.

Until Dawn 2 will be released on Jan. 28, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
