He’s previously written and collaborated with several entertainment outlets, including LADbible, gaining a wide perspective on how gaming fits into today’s pop culture conversation. His work blends genuine enthusiasm with thoughtful analysis, exploring how design, storytelling, and community have made gaming one of the most creative mediums around.
When he’s not glued to a controller or keyboard, Paul’s usually spinning vinyl, plotting his next horror marathon, or debating which Resident Evil entry really reigns supreme.
It's been yet another dark day in the gaming industry. With EA set to layoff 400 employees, the downsizing of game developers is in full motion. BioWare, the team behind The Mass Effect Trilogy, Dragon Age: Inquisition and more recently Dragon Age: The Veilguard, now cease to exist. With over 10,000 layoffs at least this year, 2026 has been a very bleak time for the video game industry. With it still being unclear when EA will be finished with the redundancies, some upcoming projects clearly have a very uncertain future. Will Star Wars Jedi 3 see the light of day? Let's get into it!
With Mass Effect 5 well and truly canceled, which will devastate fans of the franchise, myself included, it's important to know what gaming projects are currently safe under the guidance of EA management. Thankfully, for Star Wars fans, the future is looking pretty stable for now. Thanks to an email to employees from EA's top executives, Cam and David, we now at least know where EA are planning to focus their remaining talents and what the future might look like for one of the biggest gaming publishers in the world.
It would seem that the upcoming Star Wars Jedi 3 (no confirmed title yet) is still a main focus of the company and one of their flagship series when it comes to action and adventure games. Fans of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor can rest easy as a third Cal Kestis game is still a priority for the management at EA. In the announcement, the following statement was given:
Action-adventure is one of the most competitive and high-stakes genres in the industry, where every game needs our full weight behind it. We’re continuing to deliver on our two huge launches coming up with Marvel’s Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi game. Beyond that, we will concentrate our efforts on fewer simultaneous, large-scale projects, ensuring that every game we build in this space is fully set up for success.
While most of the announcement from management was doom and gloom, at least knowing that they're committed to sharpening their focus on the franchises that are successful is good. Not a great comfort for Mass Effect fans though. They went on to say:
Our responsibility is to make the choices, provide the clarity, and create the conditions for our teams to do their best work. We also want to give every game we choose to build its best chance to succeed for our players and fans around the world.
With EA's commitment to publishing the third Star Wars Jedi game, fans can expect to see the final installment in the Cal Kestis saga in 2027. With the Game Awards coming in December 2026, it's very likely we'll get an official release date and a gameplay reveal at the show. Will Cal and company embrace their nurturing duties, or will Cal give in to his dark side and become a fearsome fighter not to be trifled with? Hopefully, we'll learn more in the coming months.
With no further layoffs announced yet for 2026, hopefully we've seen the last of the downsizing this year. Nobody wants to see more redundancies and the news that BioWare has been effectively dissolved really sucks. With no more Mass Effect on the horizon, at least we can take a little comfort in the fact that another sci-fi space adventure will come to fruition. Star Wars Jedi 3 will get a release date, hopefully very soon. It's The Return of the Jedi in 2027!
