Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted.

Stardew Valley developer ConcernedApe has been busy at work with Haunted Chocolatier for years now, and he's currently juggling both the follow-up game and the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley. As a consequence, development on Haunted Chocolatier isn't likely to wrap up any time soon, but fans of Stardew Valley shouldn't have any trouble entertaining themselves in the meantime.

Over the years, Stardew Valley has built a massive fan community, and plenty of those dedicated players are also interested in bringing new content to the game on their own. While a lot of mods simply make minor tweaks to the game, one of the latest adds a transformative new town and more.

Stardew Valley Cottoncloud Town Mod

Cottoncloud Town, created by Nexus Mods user otohimexoxo, brings a set of beloved Sanrio characters to the world of Stardew Valley. This fan expansion focuses on the puppy Cinnamoroll and his adorable associates, adding a pastel-colored town in the clouds for them to inhabit. While it's loyal to Stardew Valley's pixel art style, the overall aesthetic is a major shake-up from the base game's comparatively realistic world.

In total, the mod delivers nine NPCs, with 47 foods/recipes, eight fish, and 46 furniture items, and otohimexoxo promises "much more to come." Some of the biggest future plans include visits from other Sanrio characters, like Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kuromi, along with heart events for all added NPCs. Cottoncloud Town was first uploaded on March 10, but otohimexoxo has continued to work on it actively, with the latest update arriving on June 21.

Sanrio is no stranger to video game crossovers, with the brand's iconic characters notably appearing in major franchises like Animal Crossing. Even so, the fan-made content for Stardew Valley manages to outdo some of its official collaborations, and it's free of the daily limits and live-service elements of the official cozy game Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

At any rate, Sanrio is a property that clearly appeals to a large portion of Stardew Valley's cozy game community. It's already managed to go international, with translations in Chinese, Spanish, French, Russian, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese all shared to Nexus Mods by other users.

There's obviously a demand for a sugary-sweet Stardew Valley remix, so hopefully, Haunted Chocolatier will be able to capitalize on some of the same hype whenever it arrives. For now, Cottoncloud Town might be the perfect way for Stardew Valley fans to enjoy a fantastical twist.
