In recent years, my Steam backlog has more than doubled. Sale frequencies have increased, and the market is full of up-and-coming developers looking to release their projects on Steam. It's become synonymous with buying a game on PC for some people, so all of those eyes matter.

Over on X, the Free Steam Games account has announced four new freebies, which you can claim now.

The Steam logo is superimposed over a green background.

This batch of games includes four titles, and they couldn't be more different. Spanning multiple genres, here are all the games on offer this week:

Out of all four, Cinder City is arguably the most intriguing: "Cinder City focuses on puzzles, teamwork, and time-management. Become the best firefighter by traversing through the city in a classic couch co-op setting. Get to work putting out fires and saving those poor citizens." Set to the tune of a 1920s firefighter simulator, it stands out among many other free games and includes couch co-op.

For cozy game fans, you may want to check out Butterfly Chase, which is a clicker experience: "Embark on a relaxing challenge to find a single butterfly hidden among decoys fluttering across vibrant levels. Challenge yourself with five difficulty settings and random events that make your goal of finding the target harder! Collect coins as you play and use them to purchase helpful power-ups, or save enough to purchase the next level."

Knockout Carnival looks like a Fall Guys clone, and Factory Reset is described as a "polished game reminiscent of the flash game era" by a reviewer. So far, it's the most positively received of the four, and even the premise is fun: "Something is wrong at First Spark Industries. Sent to investigate a mysterious drop in productivity, you arrive at a robot distribution center that doesn't quite add up. To uncover the truth, you'll need to navigate every floor - and everyone on it. Talk your way through. Hack your way through. Befriend the workers, or use them. But every choice leaves a trace. The workers here have their own agenda. And they've noticed you."

You can't really argue that Steam doesn't have variety. A party game, a firefighter simulator, a clicker, and a factory-based exploration game don't have a lot in common other than dropping for free this week. It's incredibly easy to build up a backlog.
