Streaming's Best Spy Thriller Officially Confirmed To Return For Season 8

Slow Horses remains the most consistent show on streaming. While many acclaimed TV series take long, multi-year breaks between seasons, this acclaimed spy series has released at least one batch of episodes annually since 2022. Fitting with that trend, Apple TV just announced that Slow Horses will return for season 8 and that production will begin soon.

The latest season will be based on the ninth and most recent book in Mick Herron’s Slough House series, Clown Town. The announcement comes shortly after Slow Horses’ latest Emmy win, with Saul Metzstein taking Best Director for a Drama Series with season 5, episode 6, “Scars.” The show’s sixth season returns Sept. 16, 2026, and runs through Oct. 21, 2026. The upcoming season 7, based on Herron’s Bad Actors, was announced last year.

As for season 8, it “sees Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet,” Apple TV’s summary reads. “When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all."

What is Slow Horses about?

Apple TV provides the following description of the series:

Slow Horses is a darkly humorous espionage drama that follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known unaffectionately as Slough House. Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but cantankerous leader of the spies, who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes and who frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world.

Oldman has received widespread acclaim for his performance as Lamb, particularly for his impressive ability to eat food in the grossest ways imaginable. Each of the show’s five seasons has a Rotten Tomatoes score above 95%, and the last three seasons have been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys.

Apple TV has been on quite a run as of late. Widow’s Bay won a stunning 14 Emmys last night, the most ever for a comedy series. The streamer recently announced that Silo is coming back for its fourth and final season, which will air less than a year after the third season concluded. Between Pluribus, Severance, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Pachinko, and many others, Apple TV has shored up an impressive catalog.
