Tara Lipinski Admits She's Unsure About Daughter Georgie Following in Her Skating Footsteps

Tara Lipinski is surprised how her daughter is skating to her own tune.

The Olympic figure skater shared that while it's been incredibly heartwarming to watch her and husband Todd Kapostasy’s 3-year-old Georgie take to the ice, she’s not sure if she wants her daughter joining the world of competitive figure skating.

“I never really want her to ever feel pressure to ever follow in my footsteps,” Lipinski exclusively told E! News. “So part of me really never thought she would skate. And I don't know if I actually want her to skate.”

However, Georgie has really found her footing on the ice, with Lipinski joking, “The problem is she likes it.”

For now, the 44-year-old is going to encourage the fun part of skating, adding that getting involved in sports is also “a great confidence builder” that can “give you so many tools that you use later in life.”

“If she loves it as much as she does, we'll do it for as long as she wants,” Lipinski said, sharing that Georgie “loves the sparkly outfits, and she loves the sequins, and skating to 'Pink Pony Club.’”

“I just want it to be all fun,” she emphasized. “I obviously saw how serious a sport can get, and for Georgie I just want her to see all the positive aspects of being on the ice and having fun.”

Of course, the Olympic gold medalist is doing her best to keep the fun skating along for Georgie, especially with the holidays coming up.

“We are in prime magical Christmas memories and moments and she is so into it,” Lipinski raved. “I even told her this morning, I was like, ‘It's time to decorate for Christmas,’ and you can see the little smile pop up.”

Luckily, she’s got plenty of inspiration for her holiday decor as the host of HGTV’s Big Bargain Holiday Showdown, in which contestants are challenged to create Christmastime magic on a dime.

“I had a little notepad that I, eventually, after the second episode, was like, ‘Oh, I'm going to take notes on this. I don't need to spend money to do that. Now I can do it like this,’” she shared. “The added benefit of the show is that we get to see how it's done on a budget and that it's relatable, so that everyone at home can try fun projects when it comes to their decorating this year.”

And the sports commentator was truly dazzled by how the competitors stuck the landing on the series, raving, “It was incredible to see how the teams were able to come up with these creative and unique ideas.”

Big Bargain Holiday Showdown airs on HGTV Tuesday nights starting Nov. 3 at 9 p.m. ET.
