There are certain series where one character is so intrinsically tied to everything that happens within it, that it's kind of impossible to imagine a release without their presence. Terminator is one of those series, and Sarah Connor's influence is felt throughout all of the films and other adaptations we've seen so far (for the most part).
As well as being the mother of John Connor, who leads the resistance against Skynet, she also becomes a battle-hardened warrior in her own right, defining the continued human presence in the case of near-extinction. As such, any time she doesn't appear in a new release, it's bound to draw a ton of attention, and that's about to be the case in a game that actually looks genuinely brilliant.
Over on Steam, you can find the store page for the upcoming release of Terminator: Survivors, an action shooter from developer
Nacon Studio Milan. You take on the role of a survivor in the immediate aftermath of Judgment Day, where you will help the rise of the resistance in the face of brutal oppression from Skynet.
In sharing a little about what fans can expect, the developer dropped the following insight:
"Play as a survivor in this open world return to the iconic Terminator universe set in the aftermath of Judgment Day.
"Four years have passed since the day humanity almost disappeared. The truth behind this apocalyptic event has yet to be uncovered. You emerge from a shelter to try and re-establish a semblance of society, only to discover a world ravaged by Skynet, who seem hell-bent on eliminating you and the last remnants of humanity.
"Fight the first Skynet prototypes and help the Resistance rise from the ashes of civilization. But beware, the legendary T-800 is after you, and staying in one place for too long could prove fatal. Investigate and discover the truth behind the nuclear apocalypse, Skynet and the Terminator threat."
That essentially puts players in the shoes of many of the actions that Sarah Connor took straight after the fall of humanity as we know it. It's an understandable decision, given her role in T2, but it will still be a shame to miss the opportunity to explore her crucial role in those years further.
The only caveat to enjoying what looks like a visually stunning Terminator entry is that we don't currently have a planned release date. It's the first game that the developer has worked on, and we were only introduced to the project back in February, so don't expect to be playing it any time soon.
