'The Office' UK's Lucy Davis Shares Incurable Cancer Diagnosis

Lucy Davis is getting candid about her health journey

The Office U.K. alum shared that after being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer a year and a half ago, the disease has metastasized to her bones and “is incurable, and too late for chemo.”

“The initial lump that I felt, wasn’t a ‘lump’ as such,” Davis wrote on Instagram Aug. 11 alongside a video of herself ringing a bell in the hospital signaling the end of treatment, “rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn’t bother getting it checked. So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything - get everything checked out.”

“As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can,” the 53-year-old continued. “I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that.”

Still, the Wonder Woman actress did admit that “the pain can really be something else.” Standing and walking for too long have proven especially difficult, which has led to her using a wheelchair on occasion, quipping, “If you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!”

“The thing that has been most vital to me is humour. I asked my friends and family to make fun of me as much as possible (which they’re really good at),” she wrote with a rolling eyes emoji, “and most importantly of all to not treat me like a sick person. There’s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you’re unwell.”

Davis stressed that she was “not scared of whatever comes next,” but is instead “at peace with it.” She is however “grieving” for her family, noting that her death will be “far harder for them than for me.”

In the meantime, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star—who remarked that she’ll be reunited with her beloved late dog Gracie “sooner than expected”—expressed her plans to continue with her animal advocacy as well as her acting career, saying “acting is one of the biggest joys in my life.”

“For those of you on a similar journey to mine, I do wish you well. Cancer asks a lot from us, physically and mentally,” she wrote. “And we all get to do it however we choose. Much love to you all.”

“I promise you it’s not a face lift,” he added. “I’d need a refund…”
