Titus Welliver’s Gritty New Crime Drama Gets “Very Confident” Season 2 Update Ahead Of Release
MovieStillsDBTitus Welliver’s new crime drama series hasn’t been released yet, but there’s already a positive season 2 update.
After more than a decade of playing Harry Bosch in the original Bosch series and the continuation Bosch: Legacy on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, respectively, Welliver is heading to MGM+ for his next leading TV role. The actor is starring as Glenn Keenan in The Westies, which follows the title Irish-American criminal gang in New York City in the 1980s. Ahead of season 1’s arrival later this month, The Westies’ co-creator and showrunner is optimistic that season 2 will happen.
In an interview with Deadline, Chris Brancato, who created the MGM+ series with fellow executive producer Michael Panes, said that while he’s not “at liberty to discuss what is coming up next,” he is “very confident there will be a second season of The Westies.” This comes out of larger discussions that Brancato has had with Michael Wright, MGM+’s Global Head, about “cooking up a few additional shows for the future.” He further described Wright as “an amazing ally and always knows when to step in and give his thoughts about a series.”
The Westies is Brancato and Panes’ third MGM+ series, following Godfather of Harlem (which is set to end with a two-hour finale) and Hotel Cocaine. Brancato is also well known as the creator of Netflix’s Narcos and its companion series Narcos: Mexico. Between Brancato and Panes’ solid track record at MGM+ and the early positive buzz for The Westies, evidently the show has lined up for a bright future, though that’s not 100% guaranteed at this time.
This series focuses on two childhood friends who took different paths in life, with one becoming a police officer, and the other becoming a member of the Westies gang. Just like in real life, Brancato and Panes’ show will depict the gang both working for and against the Italian crime families during the 20th century's penultimate decade. Welliver’s co-stars on The Westies include J.K. Simmons, Tom Brittney, Stanley Morgan, Sarah Bolger, Allen Leech, Hamish Allan-Headly, Vincent Walsh, and Hilary McCormack.
Along with wrapping up his time as Harry Bosch in Bosch: Legacy’s final season last year, Welliver’s other recent TV credits include recurring/guest appearances on shows like Titans (where he played Superman enemy Lex Luthor), The Equalizer, Ballard, and Dark Winds. On the film side of his resume, he appeared on camera in 2025 for Ricky and Abraham’s Boys, and the immediate years beforehand saw him voicing Carmine Falcone and Rorschach in the two-part DC animated movies Batman: The Long Halloween and Watchmen, respectively.
The Westies premieres Sunday, July 12 on MGM+. Other upcoming shows on the platform include an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, Legacy of Spies, and a remake of The Magnificent Seven. Welliver’s upcoming projects include being a series regular in The Night Agent season 4, as well as starring opposite Al Pacino and Diego Boneta in Killing Castro, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 9, 2026.
