Tony Romo Reveals Pain Medicine, Alcohol Use in Update After Arrest

“As I have taught my three young sons,” he continued, “when you fall short, you stand up and take full responsibility. That is an important first step. The harder and more important step is examining the path that brought you here and making the changes necessary to move forward.”

And he’s making sure he has the right teammates by his side for this next play.

“The past month has been difficult, but it has also been personally significant,” Romo emphasized. “I am working closely with a team of doctors to address my health and make the necessary changes. I am deeply grateful for the support of my family, my friends, and the NFL community including players, coaches, and owners. Your encouragement has meant more to me than you know.”

Plus, his time in the league gave him important lessons he’ll carry with him every step of the way. 

“Playing taught me the power of relationships, the strength of a team, and the toughness to face failure head-on with honesty, resilience, and the determination to do better,” he added. “This is one of those moments when I am leaning on everything football taught me.”

As for his future with CBS Sports—where he spent the last nine years as a broadcaster before being placed on indefinite leave after his arrest—Romo is looking forward to getting back on track. 

“As I turn my attention to my health, my family, and, in time, my return to CBS,” he added, “I kindly ask for privacy during this period.”

After all, his role at CBS, which he referred to as a “profound honor” in his statement, has always granted him great joy.

“For me, it is always making the viewer learn something or enjoy the telecast,” he told TMJ4 in July. “It's their team. This is a huge deal. I always want them to understand.”
