What happened to The Unit cast? From marrying a popstar to starring in a horror franchise - where the stars ended up as military drama returns to screens for 20th anniversary

Fans of The Unit are set to rejoice as the critically acclaimed military drama is returning to streaming in the UK this month. 

The American drama, which has an 85 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score and an 8.1 IMDb score, is inspired by real-life Delta Force operations and centres on a covert US Special Forces team that doesn't officially exist.

Simply called The Unit, the special ops team is assigned classified military operations directly by the President - missions they can never publicly acknowledge or receive credit for.

Four series aired on CBS from 2006 to 2009, developing a devoted cult following, with fans today still debating on Reddit the plotlines, characters and lack of a fifth series.

So as it returns to screens on Freeview channel 42 - where are the stars of The Unit now? 

Dennis Haysbert  

The commanding heart of the series, Jonas Blane was played by Dennis Haysbert, who was already well known to American audiences as President David Palmer in 24 before taking on the role.

Dennis, now 72, brought a quiet, unshakeable authority to Blane that became the emotional anchor of the show across all four series.

Since The Unit finished, Dennis has remained one of the most recognisable faces on American television.

Perhaps most famously as the reassuring voice and face of the Allstate insurance advertising campaign, which he has fronted for over two decades.

He has continued acting in film and television, appearing in shows including Incorporated and Future Man.

He is currently the narrator for A&E Network's American Justice television series.

David Harbour 

Long before he became one of the most recognisable faces on television as Chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, David Harbour, 51, appeared in a guest role in The Unit.

He appeared in the 2007 episode Five Brothers where he played the character Gary Weber.

It was an early credit for an actor who would go on to global fame, also playing Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Black Widow and its follow-up Thunderbolts.

David has spoken in interviews about the grind of building a television career through guest appearances before Stranger Things changed everything for him in 2016.

He is currently single after his split from wife Lily Allen. 

The breakdown of their relationship hit the headlines when Lily used their split as inspiration for her chart topping breakup album, West End Girl.  

Regina Taylor

Regina Taylor, 65, played Molly Blane, wife of Jonas and the quietly formidable centre of the show's home front storyline.

Taylor brought warmth and resilience to a role that required her to hold the domestic world of the series together while her husband operated in the shadows, and her chemistry with Dennis gave the show much of its emotional weight.

Taylor was already an acclaimed actress before joining The Unit.

She was the first black woman to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role in I'll Fly Away in 1993.

Since The Unit, she has continued to work across theatre and television and remains highly regarded in the American acting community.

She has also worked extensively as a playwright and director, with her theatre work earning significant critical attention.

Scott Foley

Scott Foley, 54, played Bob Brown, the Unit's new recruit finding his feet alongside the more experienced operators, bringing an everyman relatability to a show full of hardened soldiers.

Foley had already made his name as Noel Crane in the long-running US drama Felicity and had appeared in Dawson's Creek before joining The Unit.

After the show ended, Foley appeared in two entries of the Scream horror franchise.

He also went on to star in Scandal, the hit political thriller created by Shonda Rhimes, playing Jake Ballard across multiple series.

He has continued to work steadily in both drama and comedy and remains one of the more recognisable faces from the show's ensemble cast.

Last year he starred in romcom La Dolce Villa. 

Audrey Marie Anderson

Audrey Marie Anderson, 51, played Tiffy Gerhardt, one of the women navigating the secrecy and pressure of life connected to the Unit.

Her character's storylines gave the home front narrative some of its most emotionally charged moments across the series.

Anderson is perhaps best known to more recent audiences as Lyla Michaels in the long-running DC series Arrow, a role she played across multiple series and in the spin-off Legends of Tomorrow.

She has continued to work steadily in American television since The Unit ended and remains active in the industry.

Max Martini

Max Martini, 56, played Mack Gerhardt, one of the Unit's core operators and one of the most popular characters across the show's run.

Gerhardt's gruff reliability and dark humour made him a fan favourite, and his relationship with Tiffy was one of the show's most compelling domestic storylines.

Since The Unit, Martini has built a strong career in action-led television and film. 

He appeared in Pacific Rim and its sequel, and has had recurring roles in series including Suits, where he played Captain Quentin Hadley.

He has continued to take on military and action roles that draw on the physicality and screen presence he developed during his time on The Unit.

Abby Brammell

Abby Brammell, 47, played Kim Brown, wife of new recruit Bob and one of the younger members of the wives' community navigating the unique world she had married into.

Her character's journey from civilian newcomer to someone beginning to understand the true nature of her husband's work gave the show a useful audience surrogate in its early series.

Brammell has continued to work in American television since The Unit, appearing in a range of drama and crime series and films including JL Family Ranch.

She has maintained a lower profile than some of her co-stars but has worked consistently across both television and film in the years since the show ended.

Demore Barnes

Demore Barnes, 49, played Sergeant Charles Grey, bringing considerable presence to one of the Unit's operators across the series.

Barnes is a Canadian actor who brought a distinctive intensity to the role and fitted naturally into the ensemble's chemistry.

Since The Unit, Barnes has gone on to notable roles in some of the most acclaimed American drama series of recent years.

This includes a recurring role in Hannibal and appearances in The Originals. 

He has continued to build a strong screen career on both sides of the Atlantic and remains one of the most respected members of the show's alumni.

Michael Irby

Michael Irby, 53, played Sergeant Dirt Dime, one of the Unit's operators whose cool under pressure and quiet loyalty to the team made him a valued part of the ensemble. 

Irby brought a naturalistic physicality to the role that suited the show's grounded, authentic approach to its military setting.

Since The Unit, Irby has continued to work extensively in American television, with notable appearances in The Killing and a recurring role in Law and Order. 

He has also appeared in a range of film roles and remains active in the industry, consistently bringing the same quiet intensity that characterised his work on the show.
