Xbox Game Pass has seen better days. Although the service is still evolving and offers access to many day-one AAA games and indies alike, Microsoft has a branding problem at the moment. With the service allegedly not performing at the levels the Xbox team would like, it's possible that the purveyor of Xbox Game Pass would even agree.

If you are a current subscriber, though, you can jump on some free July downloads now. Xbox has officially updated subscribers on what's on offer, and in addition to a ton of new games (and some removals on July 15), there are several things to dig into this month.

As of this week, there are two free in-game benefits for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. The first is the new Champion Locke, the Ashen Exorcist from League of Legends, which is still a bonus for Xbox Game Pass members: "League of Legends’ newest champion is Locke, a mid-lane assassin who specializes in bursting down enemies and turning small leads into massive advantages. Evil beware: the Ashen Exorcist approaches."

The second bonus is for Wuthering Waves, and includes the following perks: "x2 Morphable Echo, x10 Premium Tuner, and x30000 Shell Credit. Plus, subscribers will receive the XBOX Exclusive Sigil “Paths and Possibilities” as a one-time reward." That drops on July 10.

The Xbox logo is superimposed over an image of two dragons.

If you're not interested in those bonuses or don't play those titles, Xbox Game Pass is adding some more games as well to its July slate, throughout the month:

  • Gears of War: Reloaded
  • Tamashika
  • Ascend to Zero
  • PBA Pro Bowling 2026
  • Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
  • Mavrix by Matt Jones
  • FixForce
  • Fogpiercer
  • The Planet Crafter
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2

Palworld is also updating to its 1.0 edition on July 10, and is still part of Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. With how much the update is slated to bring, it's almost like a whole new game.

All that said, Xbox Game Pass seems not to be as widespread as Xbox had hoped. As of this week, a new report contends that Xbox expected 77 million subscribers this year but has only around 30 million, citing information from a legal document from an Activision hearing.

Xbox has a lot to take stock of in the next few years before Project Helix presumably launches. We still haven't heard from the company regarding their strategy for physical media, but, like PlayStation, it's entirely possible they'll drop it in the next few years.
