Recent reports claimed that Xbox would receive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6, giving its platforms a major advantage for this huge release. However, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball debunked the claim, confirming that GTA 6 will not be an Xbox streaming exclusive or available to stream on PC.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most hyped releases of the decade. To the misfortune of thousands of gamers, it will not be playable on PC on day one. GTA 6 is a timed console exclusive, only coming to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on Nov. 19. PC players saw a light at the end of the tunnel when a report claimed that Xbox had secured streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6, and the game would be available on PC via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

XCloud allows fans to stream games from their Xbox digital library across various platforms. Unlike Xbox Remote Play streaming, players don't need access to a console for it to work. While it wouldn't be the same as running the software on their computers, it would at least let them play GTA 6 at launch.

It seems that PC gamers shouldn't get their hopes up, as Xbox CSO Matthew Ball has spoken up about the matter and clarified that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be streaming on Xbox Cloud Gaming exclusively, nor will it be available on PC on launch. The initial story came from The Verge and was based on an undisclosed source at Xbox, reporting from a statement made by Asha Sharma during an Xbox employees all-hands.

One of the reasons why the claim was so credible was the fact that Xbox previously announced it would be restricting the number of free hours on Xbox Cloud Gaming starting this November. By making gamers pay for additional playtime, it would've certainly profited from PC users desperate to play the game early.
