Zcash (ZEC) Surges 5% After Breakthrough in Transaction Speed Technology

Key Highlights

  • Zakura introduces Zakura Common, an open-source cryptographic library that accelerates Zcash private transaction generation from over 3 seconds to less than 200 milliseconds
  • Mobile users experience over 14x faster proof generation, while desktop performance increases by more than 5x
  • Wallets can implement the library instantly without requiring network upgrades or hard forks
  • Following the announcement, ZEC climbed roughly 5%, though experienced a slight retrace Monday morning with wider market conditions
  • The latest Zakura v1.3.0 incorporates the new technology stack, with Vizor Wallet being an early adopter

The Zcash development community has unveiled Zakura Common, a groundbreaking open-source cryptography toolkit engineered to dramatically accelerate private transaction processing on the Zcash blockchain.

Until now, users initiating shielded transactions — which conceal sender identity, recipient details, and transfer amounts — faced delays exceeding three seconds as wallets completed necessary cryptographic computations. Zakura Common slashes this processing time to below 200 milliseconds in optimal conditions.

The innovative library originates from Zakura, the development team responsible for a Zcash full node client that debuted in July 2025. Leading the Zakura initiative is Sean Bowe, a renowned zero-knowledge cryptography expert who contributed to Zcash’s proving mechanisms before the network’s initial launch.

The performance gains are substantial across multiple dimensions. Mobile proof creation now operates more than 14 times quicker. Desktop systems achieve over five times the previous speed. Sinsemilla hashing, integral to Zcash’s Orchard protocol implementation, accelerated by a factor of 21. Additionally, zk-SNARK verification—the foundation of Zcash’s privacy architecture—performs four to eight times faster.

“Shielded wallets that use Zakura Common, and full nodes like Zakura itself, all benefit,” Bowe said in a post on X.

Implementation Impact for Wallets and End Users

This enhancement operates independently of the core Zcash protocol. Wallet development teams can incorporate the open-source library immediately without awaiting network-wide consensus upgrades or implementing hard forks.

Version 1.3.0 of Zakura already contains the enhanced technology stack. Vizor Wallet stands among the initial external wallet providers implementing the solution. Beyond faster transaction creation, wallets should experience accelerated synchronization, while full nodes benefit from expedited transaction validation and reduced orphaned block occurrences.

Zakura developers verified the technology already supports the proposed 25-second block interval planned for NU7, Zcash’s forthcoming major protocol enhancement.

Market Performance and ZEC Price Movement

Market analyst seth_fin commented on X that ZEC demonstrated a “nice breakout after ETF news” and projected the asset was “on its way to $1000,” highlighting growing positive momentum surrounding the cryptocurrency.

Following the Zakura Common announcement, ZEC appreciated roughly 5% to approach $839. The token experienced minor retracement Monday morning, tracking broader cryptocurrency market corrections.

The Zakura Common deployment represents one component of Project Tachyon, an ambitious initiative targeting scalability of over 50,000 private transactions per second for Zcash—performance levels matching major payment card networks. Project Tachyon now operates on this advanced cryptography infrastructure.

ZEC was trading around $839 during press time, reflecting approximately 5% daily gains before the Monday morning market correction.
