The subscription gaming service, Xbox Game Pass, provides people with the opportunity to play hundreds of games at no additional cost, including some of the best games from older consoles like the Xbox 360 as well as many day one releases of new titles. The service can be fantastic value for many, especially if you're someone who likes to play several different games or enjoy the nostalgia of easily logging into a game that used to be a favorite of yours.

Whether you're looking for a relaxing game to hop into for a couple of hours, or want to deep dive into a massive fantasy RPG experience, there's a wide variety of excellent choices available. And right now, that includes the BAFTA Game of the Year winning 2008 masterpiece, Fable 2.

Fable 2 Remains One Of The Best Fantasy RPGs

The Xbox 360 featured many incredibly iconic games, and one that is still talked of fondly today is Fable 2. The game takes place in the fictional land of Albion 500 years after the events of the first Fable game, which makes it easy to pick up even if you haven't played the original.

Here you play as a young hero who is destined to stop a madman from destroying the world, despite the fact that Albion's citizens feel that heroes are corrupt and unnecessary in their world. It's a deep story, while also allowing players to have their character get married, divorce, have children, and experience many real-world difficulties.

The entire game offers a unique blend of a fantasy-fairytale world and late colonial period setting. Everything feels alive and real, both from the NPCs reactions to your expressions, and simply the atmosphere where every tree branch seems real. This is all especially notable when you consider that this high-quality game was crafted nearly 20 years ago.

Fable 2 offers players a pretty long story campaign, as well as many things to do and explore even after beating the main narrative of the game. While you can complete the story in roughly 12 hours, full completion can take well over 100 hours, giving you plenty of things to enjoy.

This Is The Perfect Time To Play The Fable Series

While there are many reasons to play Fable 2, including simply that it's an incredible game that won the hearts of many players, the timing for a playthrough is perfect right now. Earlier this summer, Xbox officially confirmed a long-awaited Fable series reboot will be released next year, on February 23, 2027.

This new reboot of the franchise will offer a lot of changes, including making it an open world experience and giving over 1,000 NPCs with active lives of their own. But, we really don't know yet just how different it will be, as this reboot is taking place in a completely new timeline as well. Therefore, playing through the original games, or at least the best of them, which was Fable 2, could offer a unique and interesting perspective when the new game releases next year.

Plus, as long as you have Xbox Game Pass, it's free to play it right now anyway, so there's really no reason not to.
