AMD's new 10th-anniversary Ryzen 7 5800X3D is now available for purchase at B&H Photo at MSRP, a welcome relief for those who have been searching for the chip, only to find it being scalped at twice the MSRP after yesterday's launch. Given the intense demand, this stock will probably not last long.
If B&H runs out of stock quickly, you can also try your luck scoring the new chip at Newegg and Best Buy, but these two outlets have had only spotty availability in the wake of the launch.
The new 5800X3D was brought back into production to help enthusiasts upgrade DDR4-based platforms during the ongoing shortages of DDR5. We re-reviewed this chip for the launch, using the newest games, drivers, firmwares, and GPU, and while it is functionally similar to the original 5800X3D, AMD did have to make changes to the innovative 3D V-Cache to bring this processor back into production.
Our re-test found that this chip remains the gold standard for AM4 motherboards, squeezing out the most performance possible with DDR4. The $350 asking price is high relative to competing chips if you are building a new system, making other options preferable, but it is hands-down the best upgrade for those on an AM4 system. In fact, one of its greatest attributes is that it will deliver a competitive gaming experience while not breaking the bank to buy insanely-priced DDR5.
