Umair is a contributor for the ScreenRant anime section. He has always been enthusiastic about pop culture. Whether it's anime, movies, TV shows, manga, manhwa, video games, or pop music, he is always tuned in.

From the classic Dragon Ball to the underrated Dororo, he has a broad knowledge of the most.

When he's not writing, you may find him editing on his favorite anime, movie, or pop star on his Instagram.

It's hard to believe that it's been over 17 years since Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan first debuted in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in September 2009. Since then, the series has gone from a hit manga to one of the biggest anime franchises of its generation, and its story still hasn't lost its grip on fans. The anime may have concluded its run in November 2023, but Eren Yeager's story continues to find new ways to bring fans back.

This time, the focus is on revisiting the entire series through a new project that puts viewers directly into some of its biggest battles. Considering how much of Attack on Titan revolves around humanity's desperate fight against the Titans, it's a fitting way to mark the franchise's 17-year history.

First announced at Summer Game Fest in June, Attack on Titan 3 has another reason to stand out beyond its return to gaming. MAPPA is creating a brand-new opening sequence for the project, with Arifumi Imai, one of the franchise's most recognised action animators, directing it. That's particularly exciting given how much of Attack on Titan's identity comes from its fast-paced ODM battles. This time, fans won't just be watching those sequences unfold. They'll get to take control of the Omni-Directional Mobility gear and fight through some of the series' biggest moments themselves.

Attack on Titan 3 Drops December 9 With A Massive 40-Hour Main Campaign

Koei Tecmo and Omega Force aren't holding back on the amount of content, either. Attack on Titan 3 is set to launch on December 10, 2026, for consoles, with the PC version arriving a day earlier on December 9. Digital Deluxe Edition pre-orders will also receive 72-hour early access starting December 7. More importantly, the game will adapt all 34 volumes of Hajime Isayama's manga, covering the story from the fall of Wall Maria to the Rumbling.

That is a considerable amount of story, and the estimated playtime reflects it. Speaking at Tokyo Game Show 2026, producer Hideo Suzuki revealed that the main campaign alone will take around 30 to 40 hours to complete. Side quests, character bond missions, and optional modes can push a completionist playthrough to roughly 60 or 70 hours, giving players plenty of reasons to stick around after the main story.

For some perspective, the campaign is longer than God of War Ragnarök's 26-hour story and Grand Theft Auto V's 32-hour campaign, making it one of the longest games. It even takes longer to complete than watching all 94 episodes of the Attack on Titan anime back-to-back. That's quite a commitment, particularly for a game based on an anime series, but covering the entire manga was never going to be a small undertaking.

Attack on Titan 3 Finally Pits Players Against All Nine Shifters In Massive Boss Battles

The jump from the early Scout missions to the Final Season is a pretty big one, and Koei Tecmo and Omega Force have more than just extra story to account for. The 2016 Attack on Titan game covered the first season, while Attack on Titan 2 and its 2019 Final Battle expansion took the story up to the Scouts reaching the ocean. Now, after seven years without a console game covering the series' biggest chapters, the developers are rebuilding the early arcs from the ground up rather than relying on cheap slideshow cutscenes.

The Final Season also changes the kind of fights players can expect. Alongside the familiar Titan battles, Attack on Titan 3 introduces human-versus-human combat built around aerial gunfights, Thunder Spears, and Anti-Personnel ODM clashes against Marleyan soldiers and the Yeagerists. Players will also face all Nine Titans in boss battles for the first time, including the War Hammer, Cart, and Jaw Titans, as well as ancient Titan shifters during the Rumbling.

There's also the new Exterior Scouting Missions mode, where players build supply bases beyond the walls, manage limited ODM gas and blade durability, and risk permanent squad deaths while reclaiming territory. Returning Attack on Titan 2 players will even receive bonuses for their carry-over save data, making this a fitting send-off to Isayama's 17-year story.
