For the past decade, Bloodborne fans have been waiting for the news that a remaster, or even a PC port, was on the way. Now, overnight, there has finally been an announcement, but it is definitely not the one we expected. It has been revealed that an animated Bloodborne movie is now in development at Sony. With an R-rating, the movie will be produced by YouTuber Seán William "Jack" McLoughlin, who is best known as JackSepticEeye. Despite there now being brand-new Bloodborne content on the way, fans have been left feeling divided over the direction this animated movie could go in.

Bloodborne Is Finally Returning

Bloodborne's Moon Presence boss descends from the Blood Moon to face the Hunter in the Hunter's Dream. The Hunter stands in a field of flowers at night.

Eleven years after the launch of Bloodborne, the hit FromSoftware title is back. Developed by Sony Pictures in collaboration with JackSepticEye and Lyrical Animation, not much is yet known about the movie, but it is safe to say that it will follow the story of what many consider to be FromSoftware's magnum opus with the titular role going to the unnamed Hunter who must get to the root of Yharnam's mysterious blood curse. Set in a Victorian-inspired Gothic city, Bloodborne is guaranteed to transfer beautifully to the big screen, especially as the studio promises that the movie adaptation will be “very true” to the game (via Variety).

However, despite the good news, fans have been left feeling divided over the recent development, with many concerned over JackSepticEye's involvement, whilst others would have preferred that long-awaited PC port and remaster.

This Isn't The Bloodborne Revival Everyone Wanted

Over the years, JackSepticEye has been open with his love for Bloodborne, even sporting his very own Hunter's Mark tattoo after revealing that the FromSoftware title was his favorite game of all time. However, content creators getting involved in large-scale projects such as this has not always had the best track record, and so fans of the series are understandably concerned. That being said, it is worth noting that McLoughlin will only be producing the movie, and will not have any input in the development of the animated movie. That we know of, at least.

Nevertheless, Bloodborne fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the announcement. "Let me get this straight," one user shared. "Bluepoint Games isn't good enough to make a Bloodborne Remake, but "JackSepticEye" is good enough to produce a Bloodborne film? It has never been so over..." However, another Twitter user thought differently, adding, "This is either going to be the most beautiful nightmare ever or the hardest carry in animation history."

Over on r/bloodborne, McLoughlin shared his involvement with the project, and with over 1,000 comments racked up in just six hours, it is safe to say that fans are eager to involve themselves in the news. "We got a Bloodborne feature film before 60 FPS patch smh," one user joked. "Hahahaha ok, what kind of out of pocket April Fool's prank is this?" Another asked.

With both a Bloodborne and Elden Ring movie in development, the future is looking bright for FromSoftware fans, but let us hope that these ambitious projects will live up to the hype of the beloved games.
