Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s “Lost Episode” Is An Absolute Blast

Originally airing from 1997 to 2001, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a show that many of us grew up with, and became our introduction to the whole vampire genre. Based on the 1992 movie by creator Joss Whedon, the show follows Buffy Summers, the latest vampire slayer in a long line of strong women. Chosen by fate to battle vampires, as well as other dark forces, she soon learns to embrace her destiny after originally wanting to live a normal life.

Now praised as one of the greatest television shows of all time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has since gone on to welcome multiple spin-offs, ranging from novels to comics, and even video games under the IP. As such, the 'Buffyverse' was born and still maintains a dedicated fanbase to this day.

However, what some fans may not know is that the video game, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, which launched back in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, was actually based on an actual plot originally planned for the television series.

A dreaded enemy from Buffy's past has unleashed the ultimate incarnation of evil — The First. Now, Buffy and friends must unite with an unlikely ally to slay vampires, zombies, and other bloodthirsty hellions. Destroy the dark side, before Sunnydale is forever condemned to permanent darkness.

In the action beat 'em up title, players will get to battle as Buffy, Willow, Xander, Spike, Faith and Sid the Dummy as they master unique weaponry and over 150 slayer moves and combinations. With help from Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator, Joss Whedon, Buffy and friends must team up to slay vampires, zombies, and other enemies of the night in an attempt to save their town from an everlasting dark.

Not only that, but with up to 4-player multiplayer support enabled, Chaos Bleeds was revolutionary for the time, especially as the show was still riding the high of its popularity.

Chaos Bleeds Is Well Worth Playing

Perhaps most surprising, is that the events of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds take place during the television's fifth season, and is even based on a lost episode that would have taken place around the season five finale. According to the fan-made Buffy the Vampire Slayer Wikipedia page, "it takes place sometime after "Forever" (as Joyce's grave is seen), but presumably between "Intervention" and "Tough Love" (as Spike is on more-or-less good terms with the Scooby Gang and Tara is still sane)."

As such, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds is worth checking out even to this day. It may not have received an official remake or remaster, but if you are a fan of the original story and want to see some unseen content, look no further than this 2003 hit.
