If you've been waiting to pick up EA Motive's excellent remake of the classic horror game Dead Space, you'll want to take advantage of the fact that it's just $5.99 on Steam.

EA is currently hosting its summer sale on that popular PC gaming launcher and storefront, with many of its games being available at deep discounts. As part of that sale, Dead Space has been discounted by 90% to just $6, the lowest price the game has ever been on Steam. Typically, Dead Space still retails for $59.99 on PC.

The game is worth it at any price, though, as Dead Space is one of the best video game remakes ever made. Released by EA Motive in 2023, the remake retains the core of what made the 2008 original so special while improving it in some amazing ways. It follows a man named Isaac Clarke as he searches for his wife aboard the USG Ishimura, a spacecraft overrun by grotesque aliens called Necromorphs.

While the original's third-person survival horror gameplay holds up today, this remake enhances it in several ways. From a presentation standpoint, 2023's Dead Space gives the game a beautiful Frostbite engine visual overhaul, makes the gore when you shoot an enemy's limbs off much more detailed, and presents the whole game as a continuous shot, like God of War: Ragnarok or Blood Message. It's still one of the best-looking games of the decade.

As for the gameplay, the pace at which players acquire weapons and the feel of its antigravity sections have been vastly improved. In Polygon's review of the Dead Space remake, Michael McWhertor called it "the best possible version of Isaac Clarke’s trek through a veritable hell." It's a shame that no follow-ups are currently in the works as EA Motive focuses on the ongoing development of Battlefield 6.

It's an easy recommendation, especially now that it's available at such a low price on Steam. Dead Space is also available on PS5 and Xbox Series X, though it's not currently discounted on those platforms and actually has a higher base price of $69.99.
