The Xbox 360 generation really did feel like a bit of a magical time for video games as a whole, with a ton of iconic franchises making an appearance on what really was a special console. Of all of those, Fable II still stands at the very top for me, as a beautiful and immersive fairy tale adventure that really played like nothing else before it.

Though the completion of the trilogy was a little disappointing overall for longtime fans, we'll always have the halcyon days of the second game to look back on and play. That was made all the easier thanks to its addition to Xbox Game Pass, which even allows PC players in on the fun via Cloud Streaming.

If you do own a copy of the game, or have access to it via an active Game Pass subscription, there is one download that you'll absolutely want to be aware of before your next playthrough.

Over on Twitter/X, the developer Stormslayer shared a post detailing a team that have successfully managed to package a new version of Fable II that should leave the base game in the proverbial dust. The PC release is available to download right now, and there are a lot of improvements that could make it the definitive way to play moving forward.

It's important to know that this is a preconfigured version of the game running via emulation, thanks to Xenia. There are a ton of people behind the scenes, working away to fully recompile the game to create a native PC version, though that hasn't yet come to fruition and this is absolutely the best we can do in the meantime.

The game comes with resolution settings for the PC, as well as screen aspect ratio, and frame rate options. This version of Fable II also features a full Brazilian Portuguese translation created by a native speaker, and a bunch of improvements and fixes across the board.

The floodgates will really open once the game has been made native, opening the door for additional texture packs, lighting changes and other visual improvements.

We could certainly do a lot worse than playing this version of Fable II while we wait for the reboot to drop at the start of next year. That game has been a long time coming for fans of the series, so let's hope Playground Games manages to deliver on all fronts, if only to prove that the appeal is still there.
