The larger Game of Thrones universe has dozens of iconic dragons thanks to George R.R. Martin's elaborate lore, with an entire chronological history dating back to where it all began with Aegon's Conquest. That legendary period is about to be explored in live action for the first time thanks to the new film currently in development.

For many of us, though, it was Daenerys Targaryen's three dragons that first captured our imaginations in the original Game of Thrones series. Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion started out as tiny hatchlings before growing into some of the most fearsome creatures in Westeros, changing the balance of power throughout the Seven Kingdoms. Each had its own distinct personality and appearance, and all three played pivotal roles in Daenerys' journey, with some particularly heartbreaking moments along the way.

Now, seven years after the HBO series concluded, one of Daenerys' original dragons is making headlines again thanks to the new Game of Thrones announcement for Flame Of The Night King that longtime fans won't want to miss (via X).

One of Daenerys Targaryen's original dragons has officially returned to Game of Thrones, albeit in his wight form, with Viserion, Flame of the Night King now available in Game of Thrones: Conquest as part of the mobile game's ninth-anniversary celebration and Halloween festivities.

Longtime fans will remember Viserion's heartbreaking death during Season 7, when the Night King killed the dragon beyond the Wall before resurrecting him as an undead wight. That "zombified" version of Viserion is now being introduced to Conquest as a brand-new Hero, giving players the chance to add one of the series' most memorable creatures to their growing collections.

According to the game's official October preview, Viserion's dedicated Hero event began on October 26, allowing players to earn Hero Shards for the character. These are used to unlock and develop Heroes in Conquest, meaning players will need to participate in the relevant in-game event to work toward acquiring him. Viserion is classified as a Heroic-tier Hero, occupying the Master of Ships position.

Despite that somewhat unusual designation for an undead dragon, his abilities are super useful for players who regularly participate in large-scale battles. His two signature skills increase maximum march size and boost marching troop attacks against enemy players. His additional abilities improve troop health against Seats of Power, dragon attacks against other dragons, march size against players, and overall troop attack.

Essentially, Viserion is designed to help players send larger, more powerful armies into battle, with some additional benefits for dragon combat. It's worth noting that he's being introduced as a collectible Hero, not a new dragon that players can hatch and raise in the Dragon Pit.

Viserion's arrival is also part of the larger Old Nan's Tales Halloween event, which runs through October 30. Other featured rewards include the new Free Folk's Gear Set, which is focused on infantry, and the Ever-Ready Warrior Peytral, a piece of dragon equipment that improves several dragon combat attributes.

For anyone unfamiliar with Game of Thrones: Conquest, it's a free-to-play mobile strategy game originally released in 2017 that lets players establish their own Westerosi houses, construct castles, raise dragons, collect iconic characters, battle other players for control of the Seven Kingdoms, and more. The game also incorporates characters from House of the Dragon and even A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, with regular events introducing additional Heroes and equipment.

Game of Thrones: Conquest still has respectable ratings after nine years, currently sitting at 4.3/5 stars on Google Play, with approximately 327,000 reviews and over 10 million downloads. It's similarly well-received on Apple's App Store, where it holds a 4.4/5 rating from approximately 90,000 ratings. If you haven't played it yet, the game is celebrating its nine-year anniversary and there's no time like the present to see what it's all about.
