Halo is one of those franchises that keeps on ticking. Even if Microsoft really messes up on the next mainline entry, you'll always see Master Chief merchandise, or even tie-ins like comics and novels.

A Lot Of Fans Are Here For It

Thanks to new info from the Korean ratings board (the Game Rating and Administration Committee), we know that Halo: Campaign Evolved has been given a mature rating. Just days later, Halo: Campaign Evolved received a mature rating from the Australian Classification System, raising questions about how violent or gory this updated reimagining will be.

For reference, the original Halo: Combat Evolved, and its 2011 Anniversary Edition were both rated M for Mature for blood and gore, violence, and language. It has been part of Halo's DNA since the beginning, but Microsoft eventually leaned into the T for Teen rating in later entries.

Some fans have argued that this attempt to reach a wider audience turned off many Halo fans, as the mature elements helped set it apart from the rest of the pack, especially at the time. With other mature shooters coming out and eclipsing Halo in its later years, it lost some of its core audience.

As for Halo: Campaign Evolved, fans are expecting a potential shadowdrop to coincide with a summer Xbox Games Showcase presentation, but given how little we've seen so far, I wouldn't be surprised if it's internally pushed to later this year.

It Needs To Differentiate Itself

Halo: Campaign Evolved is poised to be one of the most definitive versions of the original, with four-player online co-op, three new missions, and extra weapons, vehicles, and enemies. As with any remake, Halo Studios risks overstuffing it, but the mature ratings lend credence to the idea that this could be a more faithful recreation than we anticipated.

There's still a lot we don't know, though. It hasn't even been rated by the ESBR for the United States, and aside from select footage from months ago, we haven't seen much from Campaign Evolved in general. Even the small amount of gameplay shown so far has drawn some controversy. Fans are also dubious of the lack of PVP multiplayer.

If you're a Halo fan, even in spirit at this point, you'll probably be curious about how Halo: Campaign Evolved turns out. For now, things look a little more promising.
