Hayden Christen's Star Wars renaissance continues in a new Clone Wars-era reveal. Disney+ has allowed Star Wars to not only explore fresh stories and eras in shows like Andor, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, but also revisit old favorites and iconic characters in new formats. This includes Hayden Christensen's long-awaited return as the iconic Anakin Skywalker in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka, following the Star Wars prequel trilogy's brutal reception between 1999 and 2005.
While Anakin Skywalker's fall from grace was originally chronicled in the prequels, his most pivotal era is actually shown in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Set between Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars examines the effect on Anakin's state of mind of the ongoing war, his hidden relationship with Padmé Amidala, his dynamic with Obi-Wan Kenobi and the rest of the Jedi Council, Palpatine's continued grooming, and his role as a Master to his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.
Most importantly, The Clone Wars depicts Anakin the Jedi at the absolute height of his power. It wasn't until Ahsoka season 1, however, three years after The Clone Wars' final episode aired (six years after The Clone Wars' first forced finale in 2014) that fans finally got to see Hayden Christensen don Anakin's iconic Clone Wars-era armor, watch him interact with his Padawan, and enter the conflicts' terrifying battlefields.
Christensen's appearance in Ahsoka season 1 was a rousing success. Even now, three years later, it's been immortalized once more in brand-new Topps Star Wars™ Card Trader cards, based on official promotional images from the show. One features Anakin's menacing Ahsoka look in the World Between Worlds — inspired by his appearance in Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars season 7 — while the other shows Anakin's early Clone Wars-era live-action look, with his distinctive red and blue Jedi armor. Check out the new cards below, as shared by X user @ahsokascloak.
This isn't the last we've seen of Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker, either. After his Force ghost appeared on Peridea to watch over a stranded Ahsoka and her apprentice Sabine Wren in the Ahsoka season 1 finale, the character has been confirmed for a return in the show's highly anticipated second season. Given that his entire relationship with Ahsoka takes place during the Clone Wars, there's a real chance the audience will get to see Anakin wear those iconic robes once more, especially if more flashbacks and Force visions are involved.
How Anakin Skywalker's Return Will Impact Ahsoka Season 2
Image via Disney+Christensen's return in Ahsoka season 1 wasn't just about fan service (though there was certainly an element of that as well, especially with the way they recreated certain Clone Wars-era scenes). After her devastating confrontation with Darth Vader in Star Wars Rebels season 2, however, Ahsoka needed closure. She needed to know that it was okay to let go of her guilt after leaving Anakin and the Jedi Order behind in The Clone Wars season 5, and seeing Anakin again, interacting with him, reliving those memories with him, gave her that chance.
As such, it's reasonable to assume that Ahsoka's characterization in Ahsoka season 2 will be noticeably different from season 1. Traditionally, between The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka has had a lively, playful personality, encouraged by her relationship with Anakin. Of course, she was always serious and disciplined when the situation called for it, eager to learn and to please, but her trademark sense of humor was missing from Rosario Dawson's performance in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka.
During an interview at Comic-Con Scotland in October 2025, Dawson explained that Ahsoka will be "relaxing" in season 2, "getting back into her joy." According to the star, "those moments with Hayden [Christensen] and Anakin were so important for her to heal something so she could be more present." It will be great to see a more mature yet energetic version of Ahsoka in the upcoming season, especially as she doubles down on her training with Sabine Wren.
Sabine isn't like other Jedi Padawans; she was originally trained as a Mandalorian warrior. If seeing Anakin has helped Ahsoka let go of her rigidity, it will only help her dynamic with Sabine, too. According to Star Wars' official website, Anakin appeared to Ahsoka as a Force ghost in the Ahsoka season 1 finale to show her that she's "exactly where she is supposed to be." Though Ahsoka and Sabine will undoubtedly be eager to return home and escape Star Wars' secondary galaxy, at least they've got Anakin's spirit on their side.
Ahsoka season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in 2027.
