High Potential Season 3: Release Date, Story, & Everything We Know

ABC sets up an interesting High Potential season 3, which could end up being better than its predecessor. Led by Kaitlin Olson, the American adaptation of the French show, HPI, was an immediate hit when it premiered in 2024. High Potential has been able to maintain its success during its sophomore year, being one of the most-watched shows of the 2025-2026 TV season. While expected, this was a significant change from the previous year, wherein ABC took a while before deciding whether to bring back the Olson-led series.

High Potential Deviates From Its Set Path For Better AND Worse

ABC sees High Potential move away from its established narrative path for its biggest storyline, and the change has good and bad ramifications.

The news of High Potential season 3 renewal came with a disappointing update, however. While its future is now secured, it will have to move forward without original showrunner Todd Harthan. He exits the project to focus on the Disney+ live action series Eragon, which he will co-showrun with Todd Helbing.

When Will High Potential Season 3 Release?

Unlike streaming and cable shows, network TV has a set schedule. This allows shows on traditional broadcasting to have a good idea on when new episodes will release following the annual summer break. Typically, the season starts around September and October and ends the next May. The exact date differs, however, depending on the network.

High Potential Changes Format At The Perfect Time

In the middle of its sophomore year, ABC shakes things up for High Potential with a format change, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Based on High Potential's history with ABC, season 3 will likely be released earlier rather than later in the fall. The network seems to have finally found a schedule that optimizes its consistent success throughout the cycle, which includes delaying The Rookie and Will Trent — two of its most popular shows, to winter premieres. This allows shows like High Potential and Abbott Elementary to open the cycle.

What High Potential Season 3's Story Will Be

Because High Potential is based on another show, it's safe to say that some of the bigger beats will still be based on the French version of the series. That said, ABC has long proven that it isn't relying solely on the original for its storytelling, as it has taken several creative liberties to make Olson's version continuously engaging and fresh.

Moving forward to High Potential season 3, it's safe to say that Roman's disappearance mystery will continue to unravel. Whether ABC finally solves the case once and for all is still uncertain, but as season 2 started to reveal substantial clues about what happened to him, it's safe to say that there will be some kind of narrative payoff in the near future.

Beyond that, also expect High Potential season 3 to continue developing Morgan and Karadec's relationship. The sophomore year became more obvious with its slow-burn romance set-up, and while ABC can stretch this out for longer, the pair will likely grow closer next year. It might not seem like it right now, but have faith that High Potential is working towards eventually bringing them together.
