James Van Der Beek's wife marks first Father's Day since his death with sweet photos of him and their children

James Van Der Beek's wife honored the late actor with a sweet social media post as she and their family marked the first Father's Day since his death.

On Sunday, film producer Kimberly Van Der Beek, 44, shared a series of throwback photos of their six children posing with him prior to his tragic death earlier this year.

'Missing you so much and thinking of how magnificent you were in every single way today,' she wrote in the caption. 'And somehow, from the other side? You continue to parent. You're a marvel.'

The Dawson's Creek star died at the age of 48 in February after battling colorectal cancer, which he was initially diagnosed with in 2023.

In celebration of Father's Day, his former costar, who played his mother on the show, also shared a touching tribute while remembering the late actor. 

Van Der Beek and his wife Kimberly — who got married in 2010 — welcomed six children during their marriage.

In her post, all of their kids — Olivia, 15, Joshua, 14, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 10, Gwendolyn, 8, and four-year-old Jeremiah — were seen sharing meaningful moments with their dad prior to his passing. 

In the cover photo for her carousel post, Kimberly shared an adorable snapshot of Van Der Beek hugging their young daughter during what appeared to have been a family outdoor excursion. 

She also shared a candid snapshot from a family boating trip during which Van Der Beek let one of their kids hold onto the wheel while sitting in his lap. 

She also included a snapshot of Van Der Beek being a doting father as he gave a swimming lesson to one of their sons when he was still a baby. 

The Van Der Beek family frequently enjoyed family outings together in the great outdoors, and she shared a throwback photo of the actor beaming with his toddler daughter sitting atop his shoulders. 

She also shared a sweet family selfie of herself, her husband and all of their children enjoying the sunset on a boat. 

Another one of their special memories she shared was the shirtless actor holding their beaming baby on another occasion out in nature together. 

Kimberly also included a photo that appeared to have been from the same day of her husband again cuddling their baby boy at a restaurant. 

Showing off how her husband thrived in being a doting father, she also posted a throwback photo of him goofing around with their daughter during more quality family time. 

Her sweet Father's Day post to her late husband also included a snapshot of him staring sweetly into her camera while hugging their baby boy.

She also found and shared a snapshot of him hugging one of their baby girls when she was just an infant. 

In addition to sweet family portraits, she also included a selfie of her and her husband together. 

One photo, which appeared to be from just shortly after she gave birth to their youngest child, showed Van Der Beek in bed with their six children cuddled up together. 

While reminiscing on their sweet memories, she also posted another parents-only selfie they had taken together.

She also posted a candid snapshot she had taken of her husband sharing a moment and a sweet hug with another one of their kids. 

To round out her post, she added a silly snap of Van Der Beek and their five eldest kids all posing with their hands in the air.

Many of their friends and family extended well wishes in the comments section, including Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Van Der Beek's onscreen mother on Dawson's Creek. 

'He is "one in a million" … always has been … always will be. Sending ((hugs)) from the west coast this morning.' 

'The best of the best forever. We love you so much James,' Twilight star Nikki Reed commented. 'Wrapping all of your little people in the warmest hugs today, and always.'

She also shared a snapshot of their youngest child Jeremiah on her Instagram Story while revealing how she spent the weekend with their kids. 

'Home sweet home,' she wrote over a snapshot of Jeremiah flashing his pearly whites. 'Welcomed by the Texas sun. Florida- thank you for being so good to the family.' 

Less than a week ago, Kimberly shared a birthday tribute for their youngest daughter Gwendolyn and included various sweet snapshots of her with her late father.

'Gwen- Happy 8th birthday my love,' Kimberly wrote in her caption. 

'You have such a wild and free spirit yet you are able to be so focused, clear and divinely guided. It's an incredible honor to be your Mama. I love you with all of my heart!' 

Earlier this year, Kimberly shared a statement about the late actor's death. 

In the months since his passing, she also shared various posts about how she and their children have been grieving their loss. 

In February, she shared a statement on social media confirming the television star had died after a long battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer.

'Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith and grace,' she wrote at the time. 

'There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come,' she continued. 

'For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.'
