John Grisham is the author of several bestselling legal thrillers from the 1990s, which were adapted into major motion pictures by some of Hollywood's biggest directors and stars, such as Sydney Pollack's The Firm, starring Tom Cruise, and The Pelican Brief (both 1993), starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. Joel Schumacher directed two adaptations: The Client (1994), starring Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones, and A Time to Kill (1996), starring Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, and Matthew McConaughey.
Now, USA Network's The Rainmaker, based on John Grisham's 1995 novel, which was previously adapted into Francis Ford Coppola's 1997 film starring Matt Damon, has returned as a streaming hit at the perfect time. Premiered in October 2025, the series follows a talented young attorney who is fired from a prestigious law firm and, joining forces with a small-time ambulance chaser, soon finds himself going up against his former firm in court.
