Kathryn Hahn Shares Update on Filming Disney’s Live-Action Tangled
Kathryn Hahn Teases Her Return to the Marvel Universe in ‘Agatha All Along’ (Exclusive)
Kathryn Hahn knows best.
Amid production on the Disney live-action adaptation of Tangled—which features the Agatha All Along actress taking on the role of Rapunzel’s evil mom Mother Gothel—she shared a sweet update on the film starring Teagan Croft as the longhaired Disney princess locked in a tower.
“We’re shooting in Spain right now,” Hahn exclusively told E! News at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event Aug. 14. “We've been there for a while, and it's just heaven. The locations are so gorgeous. It already feels like magic.”
“This cast is so delicious,” she continued of her Tangled costars, which also includes Milo Manheim as smoldering bandit Flynn Rider. “I cannot believe I'm singing and dancing at this stage in my life, it's pretty fantastic.”
So, what does Hahn have to say about shooting Mother Gothel’s iconic villain song “Mother Knows Best?" Well, since the upcoming adaptation of the 2010 animated movie—which Disney announced at D23 will be released in March 2028—is still currently filming, she hasn’t “done it yet.”
But that doesn’t mean Hahn hasn’t already started working on the scene. As she shared, “The choreography is out of this world.”
Ultimately, the 53-year-old—who takes on the role originated by Donna Murphy in the animated version and was a popular fancast for the live-action adaptation—is grateful for the opportunity to bring Mother Gothel to life.
“I cannot believe I get to do this,” Hahn emphasized. “I'm still pinching myself. It's so fun.”
In March, fans at last saw the light when Disney announced Hahn’s casting as Mother Gothel, just a few months after Croft and Manheim were revealed to be playing Rapunzel and Flynn, respectively.
Yet, Hahn and the Mouse House didn’t share the news of her casting with any simple announcement. After all, the Wandavision alum posted a fun video of herself showing off her “OOTD,” which featured a T-shirt with a collage of photos of the cartoon version of Mother Gothel.

“Hey! OOTD, just found out what that stands for. So, here's my Outfit Of The Day,” she shared in the Mar. 10 Instagram video, which was a joint post with Disney. “Simple jeans, glasses, T-shirt. This is easy. You know, just another day.”
Yet, Hahn—whose Instagram username is ironically @motherhahn—proved that it was, in fact, not just a regular day in her caption, writing, “OOTD, Mother Gothel.”
Among those who went wild in the comments section over the news? Manheim, who joked, “YEEEEESSS I CANT WAIT TO GET STABBED BY YOU.”
