Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Official 2027 Return Splits Gamers

There's no doubt that both The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and its predecessor Breath of the Wild, were enormously successful for Nintendo and the franchise as a whole. The open-world approach was a genuinely exciting moment and step forward for the series, and there were more gameplay mechanics than ever before.
That said, we have most likely seen the end of that era as a whole, with the next game set to mark the first step in a new moment for the beloved series, whatever that ends up looking like. As is so often the case, however, it won't disappear into the night quietly, and the latest announcement connected to the franchise hasn't gone down universally well with fans.
As we reported several days ago, Hasbro recently confirmed a multi-year partnership with Nintendo to produce action figure and toys tied to The Legend of Zelda. They confirmed the first releases in that line at a recent presentation during San Diego Comic Con, and they are all drawn from Tears of the Kingdom.
The ambiguousness of the initial announcement had led many fans to believe that the toys would likely draw inspiration from older games in the series, particularly with Ocarina of Time releasing soon. That could still be the case at some point, but the lack of anything like that here hasn't been received well at all.
Over on Twitter/X, the official Hasbro profile shared the new toys, and the responses give a good idea of where fan reception is.
"Why even advertise this like you did when all it was going to be was Tears of the Kingdom figures?" one said.
While another added, "Really hope we see some more classic looks sooner than later. I’m extremely tired of the designs from the Wilds era. We’ve had the same Link for nine years. I want some love for the classics."
Others speculated on the potential reason for it, saying, "I’m thinking they might be releasing this because the movie may be based on this era of Zelda… it would make sense to start releasing toys for promo purposes."
Happily, even if the figures above are not to your taste, there is still plenty of exciting Zelda stuff coming down the pipeline to look forward to. That obviously includes the major Ocarina of Time remake, as well as the upcoming movie adaptation, both of which should be watershed moments for the franchise as a whole.
