Love Island Producer James Barker's Partner Breaks Silence After Death

James Barker is being remembered by his loved ones.
Following Love Island USA producer’s death at age 40, his longtime partner Adam Roth paid tribute to Barker, reflecting on the producer’s impact on his community and the entertainment industry.
"James was the absolute light and love of my life,” Roth told People in a statement on June 15. “He brought joy and brilliance to everything he touched.”
The couple had been together for over four years and lived together in Brooklyn, New York. And while Roth said their time was “cut way too short,” he’s grateful for every moment he and Barker shared.
"James was such a champion of the community of young music artists he was able to introduce to audiences on Love Island,” the 48-year-old continued. "We met at a Billie Eilish concert, and live music was a constant in our relationship."
He concluded: "I am so proud of the work he did and that he was surrounded by such an amazing team. His loss is unimaginable."
Barker died after experiencing an “unexpected medical emergency” while filming season eight of Love Island USA in Fiji, ITV America and Peacock confirmed in a joint statement June 15.
“James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock,” the statement continued. “He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent, and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”
A longtime member of the Love Island USA family, Barker had joined the show in 2020 as a story producer and later became an executive producer.

And Barker had loved being a part of the series, celebrating its success during the show’s seventh season in June 2025.
“The minute I heard #loveisland was coming to the US I knew I had to be apart of it,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Now, 6 years later, we’re doing absurd numbers on @loveislandusa and I love my job more than I ever have. Congrats to the team, past and current. We did it.”
