Miranda Lambert made the most of mama's broken heart.
That's because after her 2015 divorce from Blake Shelton, the country darling "dove headfirst into songwriting" when she moved back to Nashville to restart her life as a single woman.
"When I moved back in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from all of the previous years and just used it," Lambert shared on the And The Writer Is... podcast Oct. 27. "Used the misery."
Admittedly, the 42-year-old didn't hold back any aspect of her life from her creative process, including staying out late at honky-tonks.
As she put it, "I used what I was living, and my friends went on that journey with me—friends being songwriters. And I think I wrote 75 songs."
And as Lambert turned her heartbreak into her next hit album, The Weight of These Wings, thanks to spending the majority of the year with her guitar in her hand, she "really grew as a vocalist and a songwriter."
"It was kind of magical," she elaborated, comparing the creative freedom to her previous album Platinum. "It wasn’t writing towards a specific record or a sound or a feisty or whatever. It was raw emotion."
Indeed, splitting from Shelton—who began dating now-wife Gwen Stefani in November 2015—was a difficult chapter for the "Kerosene" singer, especially with the added pressure of public scrutiny.

"I got divorced, and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye,” Lambert explained, "especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career."
The CMA winner summed up the painful experience as "a really not fun time."
Yet, she found out what makes a love song again when she tied the knot with former NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin in 2019. Read on for a look at their love story.
