Mischa Barton sends The O.C. fans wild as she hints the iconic noughties teen drama is set for a reunion

The O.C debuted on screens 23 years ago on Thursday.

And as the anniversary came around, lead chacter Mischa Barton, who played Marisa Cooper on the beloved noughties hit, has teased a show reunion. 

Appearing on the red carpet at the the Remus Lifestyle Night in Madrid, the British-born actress, 40, spoke to German showbiz radio station RTL about a reunion.

Appearing on RTL, Mischa was asked if a reunion would be likely after co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke hosted a podcast, Welcome to the O.C., B***hes together and after Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie enjoyed a recent reunion.

Mischa teased: 'I did the podcast with Melinda and Rachel. There might be a reunion coming up, we'll see... We'll see…'

The star became a teen idol when she took the role as troubled fashionista Marisa, however she only appeared in three of the four series, spanning from 2003 to 2006, after her character died. 

Mischa's incredible rise to fame from the show came when she was just 17 and she suffered publicly with handling her rise to the top. 

She has spoken candidly about the distress she went through both on and off set, explaining she felt ‘unprotected’ by the powers that be, which ultimately led to her decision to leave the show at the end of the third season.

She suffered breakdowns and PTSD that stemmed from her traumatic time in the glare of the media spotlight.

Her woes were well-documented. In 2007, Mischa was arrested in Los Angeles for drunk driving, marijuana possession, and driving without a licence.

She pled no contest and was sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation.

The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz later said that "Mischa was one of the young women stalked by photographers and treated unkindly by online bloggers. Fame hit in a certain way that would have been very hard for anyone to predict"
