The annual Square Enix Shareholders' Meeting has just taken place, and fans are abuzz with a potential remake of Final Fantasy 15. It's been a busy year for the company, and an exciting one for fans. Square Enix has continued to lean heavily into nostalgia and remakes, with big hitters like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation finally announced recently.
The company continues to dip into its catalog of existing and classic games, like drawing on the mobile Brave Exvius for the newly announced Final Fantasy Resonance. Even new titles like The Adventures Of Elliot draw on a return to the company's origins.
It simply makes sense for Square Enix to return to what it knows works, rather than creating entirely new games and ideas. This might be good news for Final Fantasy fans who want the company to revisit one of its more recent titles that could have gotten a bit more love.
During the Shareholders' Meeting, Square Enix representatives responded to some questions and concerns. One question and its answer stand out, as shared on X by user Cammy_Dalamud. When asked if a remake of Final Fantasy 15 would ever be released on the Nintendo Switch, Square Enix's response was as follows: "There are hardware constraints, but from a specification standpoint it is not completely impossible, so it is under consideration."
While this isn't a "yes," it's far from a hard "no." At the moment, the only way to enjoy Final Fantasy 15 on the Nintendo console is through Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition, a cute, abridged version of the title. It's possible that this Q&A is only referencing a port,
A full remake for the Nintendo Switch (or, more likely, the Switch 2) would bring the title to a wider audience.
If Square Enix does decide to move forward on this project, it would make sense to remake the 2016 game for all consoles. This is great news for fans who believe that Final Fantasy 15 felt undercooked at launch, and would benefit from a remake.
In a Reddit discussion, fans of the series talk about how excited they'd be about a remake that "finishes" the original game. Reddit user tATuParagate notes that "FFXV is the most "needing" of fixing since it's unfinished." Another user, named Parsirius, agrees, writing that FF 15 "has the best plot stuck in a mess of a game and janky storytelling. It has GOAT potential if done right."
At the moment, the brief mention during the meeting is the only sign we have that a Final Fantasy 15 remake or port will ever happen. Still this is great news because for many, there's simply no better candidate for a remake than this title.
