Olivia Wilde Details Conversation That Led to Jason Sudeikis Breakup
Olivia Wilde Breaks Silence on Harry Styles Romance, Jason Sudeikis Split
Olivia Wilde is detailing a conversation with Jason Sudeikis that changed everything.
Six years after the Don’t Worry Darling director and the Saturday Night Live alum broke up, she recalled a pivotal moment that made them both realize their nearly 10-year romance was over.
“I remember the date because it was my birthday,” Wilde shared during the June 17 episode of Call Her Daddy. “But it was March 2020, March 10. Jason and I had been shaving a rough time there for a while. Like, we had a really bumpy, bumpy ride.”
At the time, the 42-year-old—mom to Otis, 12, and Daisy, 9, with Sudeikis—recalled they were driving home from a birthday party her friends had thrown for her.
“I said, ‘Did you get me a birthday present?’” Wilde recalled. “And he said, ‘What would I get you, Olivia? I don’t know you.’ And he wasn’t wrong. We don’t know each other anymore.”
The House alum admitted that it was at that moment that both she and Sudeikis “realized it was over.”
“It was f--king tough,” she admitted. “And it brought us to a place of like, OK this is done. We’re going to end this.”
Unfortunately, their split took longer than expected to come to fruition, as Wilde noted, “Literally two days later was lockdown. COVID.”
E! News reached out to reps for Sudeikis regarding Wilde’s comments but has not yet heard back.
Indeed, Wilde and Sudeikis’ split was not confirmed until November 2020.
Of course, it wasn’t immediately smooth sailing. Wilde admitted it was difficult to see their separation play out so publicly—especially when it came to the double standard set for them.

“I remember, it was Thanksgiving and we were separated and I was with the kids because it was my time to be with the kids,” Wilde recalled. “Everything was as it should be. Kids were with me. Jason was photographed with his girlfriend on the beach in Costa Rica and the press were like, ‘Yay for him, he looks so happy. So wonderful.’”
And while Wilde—who faced backlash for her romance with Harry Styles shortly after separating from Sudeikis—emphasized that her ex “wasn’t doing anything wrong,” by vacationing with his new partner, it was a bit of a “what the f--k” moment for her.
“I was like, ‘If I was away from my children on a national holiday frolicking on a beach it would be like, ‘Just burn her at the stake now,’” Wilde considered. “‘Take the kids away from her and burn her to the ground.’”
Now, though, Wilde and Sudeikis have mastered the coparenting dynamic—no matter what people from the outside see.
"I’m really grateful for the opportunity to have this space with my kids when I am completely with my kids, completely engaged with them,” Wilde explained. “I really value the opportunity to be completely present with them and then to hand them off to a very capable co-parent who is very present with them when he’s with them and then I have this space which is permission to go work my f--king ass off.”
