Olympian Alysa Liu’s Burgundy Met Gala 2026 Look Deserves a Gold Medal
Olympian Alysa Liu brought her cool girl style to the 2026 Met Gala May 4 for her first ever appearance at fashion’s biggest night, donning a vibrant red Louis Vuitton gown.
Met Gala 2026 Dress Code Revealed
Alysa Liu proved she can score big in just about anything.
After all, the Olympian brought her A-game as she strutted down the 2026 Met Gala red carpet in New York City May 4 wearing a strapless burgundy custom Louis Vuitton gown. For fashion’s biggest night—which had a “Costume Art” theme and “Fashion Is Art” dress code—the pro figure skater's high-low dress did all the talking, though she kept her jewelry simple with a statement choker and a ring. As for her glam? Alysa, who was styled by Katie Qian, had her signature striped hair cascading down her back, with her rosy makeup complementing her dress' vibrant color.
But the 20-year-old is no stranger to making waves in the fashion department. After all, her frenulum piercing—which is located in the tissue that connects the lips to the gums—was just one aspect of her standout style that captivated audiences during the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.
“Someone called my style ‘alternative’ and I’d agree with that,” Alysa explained in an interview with NBC affiliate TMJ4 News on Jan. 26. “I love fashion a lot.”
As it turns out, the two-time Olympic gold medalist is truly fearless when it comes to expressing herself. In fact, she recalled giving herself the mouth piercing a little over two years ago.
“I had my sister hold up my lip,” she added, “and I was looking in the mirror, and I had my piercing needle and yeah, just put it through.”

In addition to her statement piercing, Alysa also had fans spinning out over her now-iconic hair, which features horizontal platinum blonde stripes throughout her brunette locks.
And the bold ‘do isn’t just for fun. After all, Alysa revealed the sentimental thought behind her color choice.
“You know how trees have rings for their age?” she said. “I thought every year I’m gonna add a new halo around my hair. It’s been two years so I have two [and] pretty soon I’ll have a new stripe.”
And when the time came for Alysa to return to the ice after retiring from figure skating in 2022, she called on the best to perfect her dye job.
"This was definitely a very unique situation for me," Hairstylist Kelsey Miller told Allure interview published Feb. 6. "It was fun to shake it up and do something I don't typically do."
Noting that the process took five hours, Kelsey added, "We started in the back of her head and took it all the way through. Your hair is truly your identity. It can help you with your confidence."
