PlayStation Officially Reveals Gorgeous New ‘Prism’ PS5 Hardware

Each design features a glossy, translucent exterior that offers a look at some of the hardware underneath. The collection also brings back the see-through aesthetic popular among electronics in the late 1990s, giving Sony's current-generation hardware a retro-inspired makeover.

The new DualSense controllers will cost $84.99 each in the U.S., while matching PS5 console covers will sell for $74.99. Both products feature the same three color options, allowing players to coordinate their controllers and consoles.

Pre-orders open Nov. 10 at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET in the U.S. through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers. The Prism Collection launches Feb. 4, 2027, though availability and release dates may vary by region. The console covers will be sold directly through PlayStation in select countries, including the U.S., with limited quantities available through other retailers in some markets.

The Prism Collection arrives as Sony faces questions about the future of its hardware, including the eventual PlayStation 6. Although Sony has not announced a release date, reports suggest the next console could arrive in 2028 or 2029, with rising memory costs potentially pushing its price toward $1,000.

Physical media is another point of contention. Sony has announced plans to end production of physical PlayStation game discs in January 2028, raising questions about whether the PS6 will include a disc drive. An optional external drive remains a possibility, but Sony has yet to confirm its plans.

For now, the Prism Collection offers PS5 owners a cosmetic upgrade rather than a new hardware generation.
