It's been an odd few months for PlayStation Plus. The subscription service and its library of games is arguably under more scrutiny than ever before, which is fair enough. After all, it's now officially more expensive than ever. Sony also recently made the odd choice to start staggering the release of PlayStation Plus Extra games, spreading them throughout the month rather than drop them all the same day.

This is a move subscribers definitely aren't loving, but it's just a drop in the ocean at this point. In yet another strange move on the part of PlayStation Plus, we now have an insight into the service's lineup of free games for July and August. I will say, I appreciate the opportunity to plan this far in advance.

While the PlayStation Plus Essential games for July are unlikely to be revealed until the start of next month, we already know which games will be leaving the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog on July 21. These games are:

  • The Jackbox Party Pack 9
  • Risk of Rain 2
  • Tropico 6
  • Source of Madness
  • Cursed to Golf
  • Hundred Days – Winemaking Simulator
  • Get Even
  • Infinite Minigolf

However, as spotted on the PlayStation Plus subreddit, we now know for sure that five more games will be leaving on August 18. That a number of games are leaving is not unusual — games leave PS Plus Extra every month — What's strange is that we have so much advance warning for August. It largely looks as if a number of games originally planned to depart in July have now been pushed to August for whatever reason.

The games now leaving on August 18 are:

  • Clash: Artifacts of Chaos
  • Onee Chanbara Origin
  • Space Crew: Legendary Edition
  • Bomber Crew
  • Roki

As you can see, no massive games — although I do think Roki is brilliant and would urge everyone to check it out. It's also worth noting that this list won't be definitive yet, and we can be certain that more games will be leaving the service on August 18; We just won't know exactly which games until closer to the time.

PlayStation Plus gamers will also be getting a very promising day one game in August: the new open-world co-op exploration game Big Walk. I do love knowing so far ahead of time what I'm going to be playing in a few months.
