If you want to take part in Pokémon Legends: Z-A's most unhinged season yet, you only have a couple of days to do so. Season 12, which started on Thursday, June 4, lifted practically all restrictions on eligible Pokémon in ranked battles, allowing for any Pokémon in either the Lumiose or the Hyperspace Pokédex to be used.
This was a stark difference from how Pokémon Legends: Z-A usually approaches its seasons, where various Pokémon are often banned for one reason or another. Season 13 is a return to form in that regard, because all legendary and mythical Pokémon are going to be banned. Here are all the Pokémon that will be off-limits for the duration of season 13:
- Xerneas
- Yveltal
- Zygarde
- Diancie
- Mewtwo
- Heatran
- Volcanion
- Cobalion
- Terrakion
- Virizion
- Keldeo
- Meloetta
- Genesect
- Hoopa
- Marshadow
- Meltan
- Melmetal
- Darkrai
- Latias
- Latios
- Kyogre
- Groudon
- Rayquaza
- Magearna
- Zeraora
Therefore, if your favorite 'mon is on that list, you should get on Pokémon Legends: Z-A before season 12 ends.
However, despite this experiment being more interesting on paper thanks to the diversity of Pokémon permitted, the reality of the situation is that Xerneas simply dominated. The fairy-type legendary, alongside Pokémon such as Mewtwo, Yveltal, Kyogre, and Groudon, was so prevalent that many players decided to just stop playing entirely during season 12.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A's new season begins at 2 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 24, and runs until 10 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 15. You can read more about everything season 13 has to offer, including the mega stones you can earn for participating, on the official Pokémon website.
