Prince Harry Shares How Meghan Markle, Their Kids Honor Princess Diana

Prince Harry's Kids Archie, Lilibet Reunite With King Charles for the First Time in 4 Years

Princess Diana’s legacy lives on in Prince Harry’s household.

The Duke of Sussex detailed how he and Meghan Markle—who share kids Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, together—continue to honor his late mom Princess Diana decades after her tragic death.

As Harry shared of the sweet way his family celebrates Diana’s birthday July 1 and anniversary of her death August 31 while attending Scotty’s Summer Festival in Warwickshire July 11, per People, “We do lemon drizzle cake.”

“I think traditions are really, really important,” he added, “especially when they’re sweet.”

Princess Diana—mom to Harry, 41, and Prince William, 44, with ex-husband King Charles—died in 1997 following a fatal car crash in Paris. She was 36.

Since entering fatherhood, Harry has been open about how he and his little ones feel the presence of "grandma Diana,” he shared in a 2022 interview with Today. "More so now than ever, she's very much helping me.”

And Diana knew her stuff when it came to raising two young royals. As she explained in her infamous 1995 interview on the BBC's Panorama, she took her boys to hospitals, homeless shelters and "all sorts of areas where I'm not sure anyone of that age in this family has been before."

They therefore "have a knowledge," she explained in the doc. "They may never use it, but the seed is there, and I hope it will grow because knowledge is power."

But Diana also had a playful side.

As Harry noted in the doc, she was "one of the naughtiest parents," while William described her as "very informal," someone who "really enjoyed the laughter and the fun. She always understood there was a real life outside of palace walls."

And despite their stature as royalty, Diana made sure her boys lived normal childhoods, making “the decision that no matter what, despite all the difficulties of growing up in that limelight and on that stage,” Harry explained, “she was going to ensure that both of us had as normal life as possible."

To this day, the Spare author is grateful for his mother’s guidance.

As Harry told Newsweek in 2017, "Thank goodness I'm not completely cut off from reality. People would be amazed by the ordinary life William and I live."

That’s why Harry was "determined to have a relatively normal life, and if I am lucky enough to have children, they can have one too."
