Radio bosses surprised by Bianca Dye's breakout success as secret search for Kyle & Jackie O replacement continues

Bianca Dye may have only been stepping in as host on KIIS FM's breakfast show – but behind the scenes, she's fast becoming the name everyone at ARN is talking about.

Daily Mail understands the veteran radio host, 52, has stunned both listeners and network insiders alike, emerging as an unexpected standout during her recent fill‑in appearances across Sydney and Melbourne last month following the cancellation of the Kyle & Jackie O show in March.

Sources say Dye has far exceeded expectations.

'Bianca has absolutely surprised people,' one insider reveals.

'There were expectations she'd do a solid job, but the reaction internally has been much stronger than anticipated.'

The surge of positive feedback comes as ARN continues working out the long-term future of its breakfast line-up – a decision that remains firmly under wraps.

Despite the buzz surrounding Dye, industry figures stress the rotating cast of fill-in hosts was never intended to serve as a formal audition process.

Instead, it's understood the temporary line-up was designed to keep audiences engaged while key decisions are made behind the scenes.

'People inside the industry are treating the fill-ins like auditions, but that's not necessarily how ARN views it,' another source claims.

'The real discussions have been happening elsewhere.'

Those conversations are believed to be spearheaded by ARN chief executive Michael Stephenson, who insiders say is playing a pivotal role in shaping the network's next big move.

High-profile media names are understood to be in the mix, with multiple discussions already underway.

And the brief is clear: ARN isn't just looking for a traditional radio host.

'The ideal candidate isn't just a radio host anymore,' a source familiar with the talks explains.

'They need television experience, radio credibility and podcasting success.

'ARN is looking for someone who can build an audience across every platform.'

The strategy reflects sweeping changes across the media landscape, as networks increasingly prioritise personalities who can drive engagement beyond the confines of traditional radio.

It also comes amid ongoing industry speculation about a potential deepening of ties between ARN and Nine Entertainment – rumours that continue to swirl despite no formal announcements from either company.

While any such move remains unconfirmed, insiders say a future alignment would only intensify the hunt for versatile, cross-platform stars.

'Everyone is looking at personalities who can work across television, radio, streaming and podcasts,' one source says.

'That's where the industry is heading.'

For now, ARN is keeping its cards close to its chest.

But while Bianca Dye may have emerged as an unexpected fan favourite, insiders warn the network's biggest decision is still to come.

And with some of Australia's most recognisable media names believed to be part of ongoing talks, the battle to become KIIS FM's next breakfast star is far from over.

Bianca has mixed her three-decade career on radio with stints on TV including working as an entertainment reporter on Mornings with Kerri-Anne Kennerley in the mid to late Noughties.

She also appeared on Beauty and the Beast, Thank God You're Here, Ready Steady Cook, Celebrity Dog School, Celebrity Singing Bee and Australia's Brainiest.

However, Bianca was most successful in radio, hosting The Nitemix Across Australia in the late 1990s and becoming a foundation presenter at Nova 96.9 in Sydney.

Alongside various other gigs, Bianca has also been a breakfast presenter at i98FM, 92.5 Gold FM, 97.3 FM and, most recently, Sea FM 90.9.

Sadly, her Bianca, Ben & Lakey breakfast show on Sea FM was axed in October 2023.

In 2025, Bianca was a fan favourite on Nine's dating show The Golden Bachelor.
