Rebekah Vardy posts statement about reclaiming her voice and 'not letting others define her' - after her new reality show was savaged by critics

Rebekah Vardy posted a statement on Thursday night about reclaiming her voice after her new ITV reality show was savaged by critics as 'very bad, very boring and deeply dull'.

The WAG, 44, took to Instagram where she said she was not 'willing to let others define her' and that 'what was meant to break her instead revealed her strength'.

While she didn't say specifically who or what situation she was referring to - the last few years of her life have been dominated by her libel battle with Coleen Rooney which Rebekah lost. She briefly touched on the case in the documentary.

She penned in her statement: 'And I'm signing off with this tonight! For so long I've stood back and allowed people to tear me down, create false narratives about who I am and tell a version of my story that was never mine.

'I've stayed silent while assumptions were made, judgements were passed and misconceptions were spread. I know what I endured I know the toll it took and I know the strength it required to keep moving forward.

'I'm no longer willing to let others define me. I know who I am what I've lived through and the values I stand for.

'Moving forward I choose to speak for myself, stand in my truth and leave behind the weight of opinions that were never rooted in reality.

'What was meant to break me instead revealed my strength. My story belongs to me and I'm taking it back.'

The statement came just after her new ITV reality show was savaged by critics in a series of lacklustre reviews on Wednesday.

During the three-part series, Rebekah insisted 'hell will freeze over' before she apologises to Coleen following their bitter feud.

And if you were expecting any more details about the famous 'Wagatha Christie' libel case then fans will be very disappointed as it is barely mentioned.

As viewers claimed the series was 'uninteresting and boring' it seemed critics agreed as the most the ITV show has been awarded is a disappointing two stars out of five.

The Guardian's Lucy Mangan insisted: 'You will be disappointed', as she gave the series one star.

She continued: 'This is because it is very bad and very boring. That will make every viewer down in the mouth.

'Those who tune in for more specific reasons – being a fan of Leicester City's beloved former striker-god Jamie V or wanting to hear Rebekah V's take on the 'Wagatha Christie' libel case she brought against and lost to Coleen Rooney – will be even more let down.'

Meanwhile The Independent's Katie Rosseinsky gave the show just two stars as she described the series as 'deeply dull'.

She wrote: 'A show about Jamie and Rebekah Vardy's move to northern Italy as the dust settles on the 'Wagatha Christie' scandal should, in theory, be television gold. And yet in practice, it's.......... actually deeply dull.

'The end result here is a strange mixed bag that doesn't quite work either as silly, frothy entertainment or as a means of burnishing the Vardys' reputation. Frankly, you wouldn't really miss much if all the footage had happened to fall into the North Sea.'

The Telegraph's Michael Hogan awarded the ITV series two stars as he described the series as 'uneventful'.

He wrote: 'Vardy became a cult hero thanks to his underdog story, rising from non-league obscurity to Premier League winner. This makes it disappointing that the couple are so tin-eared when it comes to their privileged lifestyle.

'Their Leicester mansion boasts a gym, a bar, stables, its own football pitch, golf simulator and a personalised snooker table, which never gets used. The children get driven around in SUVs and Rebekah scoffs at the idea of her teenage son taking public transport.

'Once her husband becomes Cremonese's highest-paid player of all time, she turns up her nose at a £13,000-per-month Milan rental property and scurries back to her five-star hotel.

'Odd flashes of insight aside, the couple might be warm and likeable but their uneventful series lacks sufficient soapy intrigue.'

Meanwhile watchers at home shared their frustration on X and claimed that people are now 'uninterested' with the Wagatha Christie scandal that dominated headlines back in 2022 as they begged her to stop talking about it.

'I mean, Coleen Rooney wiped the floor with her in court, so why is ITV even giving Rebekah Vardy air time? #TheVardys', a user wrote on X.

'BORING!!!', 'All the people interested in watching the Vardy documentary'.

It began when Coleen put a widely shared post on Instagram which accused Rebekah's Instagram account of leaking 'false stories' about her private life to the press.

Rebekah denied the allegations and sued for libel, but the case fell in her rivals favour, leaving her liable to pay £1.5 million towards Coleen's legal fees.

Continuing to profess her innocence, Rebekah said she has nothing to apologise for and insisted that it is Coleen who is in the wrong.

She said: 'I'm never going to apologise for something I didn't do. Hell will freeze over before I do that. I'm living with the judgment the judge made but, still to this day, I believe she was wrong'.

Husband Jamie, 39, also rushed to her defence, saying: 'People thinking that Bex was a villain, it's just a load of s*** but everyone close to her knows, that's all she needs. It was really tough seeing Bex in pain'.

Rebekah explained she was 'f***ing bored' of the long-running feud and while she may never apologise to Coleen, insisted she was not interested in living in the past or continuing to fight with her former pal.

She said she 'did not have any negative feelings' towards Coleen, despite admitting many people would find that hard to believe.

Before adding: 'I've got no idea what [Coleen] thinks of me, but I'm not bothered.'
