Reese Witherspoon's son Deacon Phillippe, 22, towers over her at the premiere of Legally Blonde prequel Elle

Reese Witherspoon was dwarfed by her son Deacon Phillippe as they enjoyed a mother–son night out at the premiere of the new Legally Blonde prequel Elle in New York City on Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old actress's 22-year-old son – whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, 51 – towered over her 5'1" frame on the red carpet.

They made the striking display just weeks after Deacon graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Witherspoon turned heads in a lacy pink semi-sheer off-the-shoulder dress with billowy short sleeves.

She added height to her petite frame with the addition of open-toe nude heels that flashed her hot pink pedicure.

The Hello Sunshine media company founder's blonde hair was styled in a side part, with the straight locks falling down her back. 

 She was typically beautiful, drawing attention to her blue eyes with fluttery lashes and complementing her other features with pink tones. 

Phillippe was dressed in a black suit with a white shirt, magenta tie and sleek aviator sunglasses.

The star of the forthcoming Amazon Prime Video series, 25-year-old Lexi Minetree, was also at the premiere.

Adhering to the show's rosy-toned theme, she arrived in a pale pink gown with floral-inspired jewels decorating its corseted bust.

Her platinum locks were parted down the middle and set in spirals, with long pieces framing her face.

It was previously revealed that Minetree was handpicked by Witherspoon to play Elle Woods in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel, which has already been renewed for season two.

The first episode will begin streaming on July 1.

Minetree recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to discuss her portrayal of the iconic character.

During the audition process, she said the casting crew gave her 30 seconds to explain why she would make a good Elle Woods.

'And I remember seeing that and thinking, "I could say I'm blonde and I'm from the South too, but I know what I have to do. I have to recreate her Harvard admissions video,"' she told Fallon.

She continued: 'I don't know if anyone remembers, but in the movie, she basically applies to Harvard [and] instead of writing an essay, she puts on this sparkly pink bikini and she goes in the hot tub.

'And she goes, "Hi, I'm going to tell all of you at Harvard why I'm going to make an amazing Elle Woods." And I thought, you know what? That's what I'm going to do.'

The series follows a teenage Elle Woods as she navigates Beverly Hills High School, becoming the confident and empowered young woman that fans came to love.

The Atlanta, Georgia, native revealed that people often tell her she looks like Witherspoon. 

'It's actually spooky because even when I was a brunette, random people would come to me and say, "You know who you look like? You look like Reese Witherspoon." I was like thank you very much. That is a huge compliment,' Minetree said. 

She also confessed that she watched the original Legally Blonde 150 times to prepare for the role.

Meanwhile, Witherspoon said that watching Minetree step into her shoes has been 'one of the most gratifying experiences of my career.'
