Rupert Everett Joins Australian Crime Drama ‘Fortitude Valley’ & DCD Takes World Sales
EXCLUSIVE: Rupert Everett has signed on to star in crime drama Fortitude Valley. The Australian drama is for public broadcaster the ABC and will hit the international market courtesy of DCD Rights, which has snagged distribution.
Detailed plot is under wraps, but Fortitude Valley will be a six-part crime thriller set in Brisbane that “explores family secrets, the corrupting force of power and the complicated truths behind lies.” Everett, recently seen in Disney+ show Rivals, stars alongside Hunter Page-Lochard (Reckless) and Kat Stewart (Five Bedrooms).
“I am thrilled to be here in Brisbane working with so many brilliant actors who are upping my game – on a wonderful show,” Everett said. “The experience has been great. Hard work but very productive. The crew are fantastic. The city is beautiful. I feel very lucky.”
The series was written, created and is executive produced by Moving Floor Entertainment co-founders Stephen M Irwin and Leigh McGrath (Harrow), along with Hunter Page-Lochard. Sian Davies (Black Snow) is the director.
DCD Rights will give the drama a big push at MIPCOM, the biggest sales market of the year, which takes place in Cannes in October.
Nicky Davies Williams, CEO, DCD Rights, said: “We are delighted to welcome universally admired and acclaimed British actor Rupert Everett as he joins Fortitude Valley. His screen presence will further extend this compelling crime series’ international potential.”
Fortitude Valley is produced by Andrew Walker (Deadloch) and co-produced by Ross Allsop (The Artful Dodger) with executive producer Greg Sitch (Fisk). The series had major investment from Screen Australia, the ABC and Screen Queensland.
