Jessica Chastain Chops Off Her Hair for Dramatic Short Style on Red Carpet
A mother’s love can bring great comfort—or absolute terror.
At least, that’s what Jessica Chastain is demonstrating in the latest trailer for Other Mommy, which dropped on July 21.
In the doppelganger horror, a young girl named Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark) is haunted by Other Mommy, a paranormal clone of her mom Ursula (Chastain). And the trailer alone teases a whole lot of spooky moments.
During one chilling scene, Other Mommy walks into the house under the guise of coming home for lunch. As she begins to make pasta for Bela, she asks if the girl remembers life before she was born.
Donning an unsettling smile, Chastain’s character says, “Sometimes I think about when you and I were one person. Do you remember that?”
After Bela replies that she “was a baby in your tummy,” Other Mommy continues, creepily asking, “Do you remember where you were before that? You were in my heart. Can I go into your heart?”
Throughout the trailer, Bela and family, including her father Russ (Jay Duplass), struggle to differentiate between the real Ursula and her sinister copy, who at one point contorts into a spider-like pose.
While Chastain—a real life mommy to Giulietta, 8, and Augustus, 6, with husband Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo—is no stranger to horror films, it’s been seven years since her last venture into the genre with 2019’s It Chapter 2. Even so, she has been open about her love for scary movies and her desire to work on them.

“It was one of the few genres that showed women as I believe we are, as really strong and heroic,” she told horror icon Guillermo Del Toro during a January 2022 conversation published in Vanity Fair. “And it was rare to find those kinds of superheroes in other genres.”
